Foggy

I have been verging on sick since the weekend, but it hasn't yet become totally unbearable. I'm still not sure if it's allergies (early, but things are starting to grow, especially in North Carolina, where I was last weekend) or if I'm actually sick. But I don't feel great. Still, I haven't been sick all winter, so if this is the sickest I'm going to get (and I am knocking on wood about this), I'll take it.

It has been kind of a cloudy week. On Monday afternoon toward the end of the day, Torsten IMed me to ask me if I liked my flowers. Except, ha ha, what flowers? It was like deja vu. It turned out that he had used the refund from the dud Valentine's Day flowers to order a bouquet of purple flowers to be sent to my office on Monday. And not from the company that messed everything up the last time. But they didn't arrive.

The gesture was totally sweet, and I am touched, but it is beyond unbelievable to me that they did not show up. Torsten called at about 4:45 and was told by customer service that there was no problem because the flowers could show up anytime until 5:00 and maybe 5:30. Unsurprisingly, by 5:30 there were still no flowers. So he called back and was told they'd be delivered either in the next five minutes or first thing the next morning.

Shockingly, neither happened, so at noon on Tuesday Torsten called back and had an extensive argument before finally managing to procure a refund. But GEEZ. What kind of bad luck do we have when it comes to flowers? I mean, are we cursed or what? Torsten seems to think so--he has vowed never to send me flowers again, except maybe on our 50th wedding anniversary.

Luckily, I did not have a meltdown on the scale of last time, possibly because just after this all happened I received a request from 1-800-Flowers to tell them about my charming V-Day experience with them. So I got to take out my frustration on their little survey. They're just lucky they didn't try to conduct the survey over the phone.

However, I'm feeling more positive today because I mailed the save-the-dates this morning. There are a few that we haven't sent yet because we are resolving outstanding questions about addresses or significant others' last names, but we should have all that information in the next couple of days and then we can get those last stragglers in the mail. I'm glad we did actual mailers instead of an online thing, though, because now we have our guest list in perfect order with no missing information, so when it comes time to send out the invitations, there will not be a million address-related questions to deal with.

And lastly in wedding news, my sister and I are going back to the bridal salon to look at my front-runner dress tonight. She will have to try it on because the sample they have doesn't fit me. But now that I've tried on so many other dresses, I know what looks good on me--and seeing it on her gives me a pretty good idea of how the dress will look on me anyway. So hopefully tomorrow I'll have a verdict to share between that dress and its backup. Stay tuned.

  3. This is the worst flower luck I have ever heard of. He's going to have to start buying them at the grocery store or something and paying a courier. Sheesh.

Can't wait to see the dress!

  4. Maybe next time Torsten should just physically bring the flowers to you. Sheesh!

I hope you don't get sick!

The dresses . . . after trying SEVERAL on myself, I cannot say enough good things about the halter style dresses. They are excessively flattering. There's my two cents.

  6. sheesh! Maybe he should go to the store and phsyically pick up some flowers and take them to you. What rotten luck.
Good Luck with the dress stuff!!

  11. I can't believe your bad flower luck! He'll have to pick up the flowers himself and personally deliver them!

Sorry you're not feeling well. Hope you're well enough to make a decision on the dress!

  12. So exciting to get those STDs in the mail, isn't it. And I wholeheartedly echo your thoughts on having your invite list in order. Fine tuning down the road is a lot easier than trying to track down people! Good luck on your dress hunt. Go with that which will make you happiest on your wedding day!

  13. Hope you don't get sick Jess! There's been a really nasty flu going around, making people stay home for at least 5 days (completely out of commission). Be careful and rest A LOT.

You may already know about this, but for your stamps, you can probably get the "forever stamps" so that when they do jack up the prices, you can still use them because they automatically adjust to the new price and you don't have to add any of those 1,2,3 cent stamps.

  14. It could be allergies. I live in GA and my nose and eyes have been really itchy lately.

So sorry about your luck with the flowers. What are the odds?!? At least Torsten thought about getting them for you, and that's what counts.

Have fun at the bridal salon tonight. I hope you decide on your dream dress! =)

P.S. - You make me feel like a slacker b/c I haven't sent out my STDs, and my wedding's in August.

  15. Good luck with the dress. I found my perfect one, but it's way to big. I am supposed to have a fitting today!

AS for the flowers next time he just needs to go to the local florist or if he insists on internet- Pro Flowers is who I use for my friends birthday, etc...

  16. Wow, you are just not meant to have flowers. SUCKY!

Surprisingly, I have pretty good luck with grocery store flowers- I swear they live longer.

  17. That is just crazy! Really?! Again?! What are the odds on that?!

Maybe you should buy a lottery ticket?

Oh and no one has EVER sent me flowers (I know, very sad!) maybe it's a good thing lol.

  18. Well, this just means all the bad luck with flowers will be over and done by the time the wedding rolls around. It's best to get these things out of the way before a big event.

That's why I always run my car into something HUGE before I go on a road trip. It lessens the odds of it happening again when I least expect it. Right?

  19. That flower thing is ridiculous. It's funny, I was just telling my husband your 1-800-FLOWERS story last night.

  20. Maybe I'm being unhelpful with the financial side of things, but I just saw the front-runner dress, and wow is it breathtakingly beautiful. WOW.

And yes, you have very very bad luck with flowers - it's inconceivable to me that you ordered again, from a different company, and STILL they were a no-show. It makes me want to open my own flower shop so that women no longer have to be frustrated with such bull.

  21. I know you're the victim here, but I feel bad for Torsten! Poor guy, just trying to do the right thing. :(

  22. Dang, that's crazy. Maybe he should try having something else delivered, like chinese takeout or something. :)

  23. Hope the sickies go away soon! And I hope the general DC flower people get their act together, pronto!

    Good luck with your dress!

  24. Wtf is up with your flower luck? It's like the twilight zone or something.

I can't wait to hear about the dress! Good luck.

  25. How fucking hard is it for you to get flowers? how disappointing...and I love, love, love your front runner dress. it really is beautiful!

  26. I can't wait to hear how it goes tonight. Take pics!!!

  27. Unbelievable about the flowers! You know, flowers don't last all that long. Jewelry. Maybe Torsten should switch his thoughtful and spontaneous gift giving to jewelry!

Hope you feel better. Looking forward to hearing about the dress!

  28. OMG - the flowers! I can heartily recommend getting them from the grocery store. That's what Jason does, and I kid you not, my Valentine roses lasted 10 days.

Meanwhile, one of my coworkers got some from a fancy florist and hers were dead in 2 days.

  29. good luck with the dress!

  30. Oh no! Don't get sick! At least, don't get what I have... it's terrible.

  31. seriously? how hard is it to deliver flowers on time? especially when that's ALL YOUR COMPANY DOES.

  32. I'm glad you got an oppertunity to give that flower place a piece of your mind...

  34. I'm just sort of aghast about the flower incident. Really? TWICE in a month? It's so ridiculous it's just funny.

And there are few things as gratifying as filling out a survey for a really really rotten experience.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Argh! Lucky you for having the thought of flowers sent your way (even if the actual ones didn;t show).

    ReplyDelete
  36. I can't believe your luck! If he wants to get you flowers it looks like he is going to have to physically hand them to you for you to get them.

Good luck tonight. Can't wait to hear what you decide.

  37. Sorry about the bad luck with the flowers. The lack of customer service is astonishing.

Echoing many others, I can't wait to hear about the dress!

  38. Oh no. Nooooo! Sick is not good. I really hope you're not because this stuff is a bitch! (I know. Believe me, I know. And I wish I didn't.)

As for Torsten and the Debacle of the Undelivered Flowers, I suggest an alternative. Tell him he never has to buy you a single flower again so long as he grows you a garden full of all kinds of purple varieties! That should solve the problem. (Of course, I guess this means you'd have to buy a place with a yard first. Hm. I think I'm just making this more complicated. And I really should consider opening that flower shop I've been talking about. Then you could order from me and I'd guarantee your flowers would arrive!)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Seriously. Maybe Torsten just needs to bring them to you in person. Good grief!
I hope you gave them an 'eyeful' in your email.
