I would if I could but I can't so I won't

So back when we first implemented this spending freeze, I read this article about a "financial fast." I didn't read it for advice, really... just out of curiosity, mostly. And of course our spending freeze is lasting more than 21 days. And what this woman proposed was a bit more extreme than what we're doing (probably because it only has to last for 21 days).

But one thing she suggested was no window shopping. And I have actually sort of generally tried to stay away from looking at things that I want but can't have, particularly online.

However. I kind of enjoy looking at new clothes and stuff, and KNOWING that I can't have them is kind of good. It means there's no dithering about whether it's worth it, how much I will wear it, and so on. And it's enjoyable to see what's around and look at all the pretty clothes.

So, with no further ado, I present you the clothes I would buy if Torsten hadn't quit his job. And by "clothes" I mean "dresses," obviously. Because what's more fun than a dress? Also, nearly all of my dresses are now too big.

1. A lovely LBD. I need this, right? Because I don't have an LBD that fits anymore.

2. A floral sundress. It's almost spring! Florals for spring! Yes?

3. You can hardly go wrong with summery J. Crew. Seriously.

4. This dress is purple. AND it has one strap. I like that!

5. More florals. But that's a good way to pretend that it's May now instead of February, don't you think?

What about you? Anything (dress or otherwise) you've been coveting? If so, do you think you'll actually buy it?

  1. I really like that turquoise J. Crew dress - so pretty and summery!

I saw a great red polka-dot dress in a magazine from Charlotte Russe, but I can't find it online. I did, however, find this instead:

I could wear it with my red shoes - yay!

If my local Charlotte Russe has it, I'll probably buy it (I can't order clothes online because they never fit).

  2. I am now coveting each and every dress you just posted! Love them!

I've been on a spending freeze since I was unemployed for months before I got started teaching, and now I have a credit card to pay off (I had to have some work on my car along with a few other expenses) as well as some loans from family members to pay back; so even once I start getting paychecks, the first few paychecks so don't belong to me.

So I definitely haven't been clothes shopping either!

  3. I love the turquoise JCrew and that last one. I love dresses, but rarely find any I love in actual stores (online shopping for major retailers is very limited here).

  4. I like some of your picks - the detail to that LBD is great and I really like that first floral dress (makes me think of my upcoming beach vacation). I shop on an as-needed basis (i.e., I rarely go shopping). So, I'm never really coveting anything.

  9. Definitely the last dress, if I was doing shopping like last year. I never do clothes shopping except for tracksuits since I left my job. I have TONS of high heel shoes and bags in my closet.

I cant get to wear any since I started working for myself. I think its a bad thing. But dressing up had kinda taken the back seat.

Thanks for the reminder that I'm actually a girl. Nice blog.

  14. Wow that's kind of an intense article. I like to window shop though, it fortifies me because I'm proud that I'm NOT buying stuff. Also, I LOVE that J Crew dress!

  15. Love spring clothes shopping, but this year it's blah. Love those dresses you picked - the good news is there will still be fabulous LBDs when you're off your spending freeze.

  16. I'm the opposite. I window shop (especially online) when I don't have cash to spend on actual shopping. That being said, I've found that limiting my clothes shopping has made me much more creative with what I already own.

I got one of those themed emails from Etsy the other day that was all about purple. I REALLY wanted to send it to you until I remembered you're in the midst of a spending freeze.

  17. I love the purple dress. I went window shopping last night at Nordstrom's Rack. I thought I wanted new snow boots, but they didn't have any I liked. Then I tried on a pair of Nike running shoes, which I also thought I would get but ended up putting them back. And then I thought I needed jeans and suffice it to say, I didn't get anything, it just felt good to want things.

  18. Ooh! I like all of those. I mostly window shop. I've been dying for a cute pair of boots for three years now. I'll pick them out, get ready to buy them and then find something wrong with them. I have a really hard time spending money on myself.

  19. That J Crew dress is so pretty! I'm always coveting something that I probably won't buy. I do want to buy a few cute, summery dresses for England, though. I'll have to start window shopping!

  20. You're my purple soulmate. LOVE that purple dress. The LBD is fabulous, too. You could probably have that dress for the rest of your life and it would always be in style.

I absolutely love dresses. In the summer it's what I tend to wear most. I love the soft, simple cottony dresses that are just way more comfy than shorts or pants.

I tend to gravitate toward vintage styles and there always at least 10 dresses floating out there that I'm coveting :-)

  21. Those two floral ones are my favorite. SO pretty.

  22. I love floral sundresses. I never actually wore them myself, but I've decided that has to change this summer. I hope I can slim down a little until then, though.

  23. I love the blue/white dress at the bottom and the detail on the LBD is amazing. Flattering in the chest and eye catching too with the detail. Love it.

  24. oh i LOVE that last dress! the LBD is gorgeous too, but i've banned myself from buying strapless dresses as they just Are Not Good for me. which is so sad, as they are obviously muy cute.

  25. I'm looking for yellow shoes and white pants. One day I may actually find what I see in my head in the store!
