Hmph.

Well, I still can't reveal my big news, and the consolation prize for that is that for those of you who missed it yesterday, the contest is still open. I am really hoping to be able to explain everything tomorrow, but I make no promises. Believe me, I'm probably more frustrated about this than you are. Assuming that you're frustrated at all, that is.

So! Let's talk about something else! Perhaps I'll take this opportunity to lodge some complaints about things that have been bugging me recently.

1. People who ask questions that aren't actually questions. Case in point, last night I dropped my new prescription off with the pharmacist at CVS. It was around 8:00 p.m. and the pharmacy closes at 10:00. "Is tomorrow OK for this?" he asked me. "Oh, actually, I was just going to wait for it now," I said. "I can't have it for you until tomorrow," he told me. SO WHY DID HE ASK? Perhaps I'd be less annoyed about this if it weren't for the fact that CVS constantly messes up my prescriptions, once losing one entirely, once trying to sell me someone else's $75 prescription instead of my own $10 one, and more often trying to give me the generic thyroid medication when I actually need the brand name. If I never have to deal with these people again, it will be too soon.

2. Talking on the radio. I just cannot deal with this. NPR is a sometimes exception, but anything to do with DJs or listener calls or morning shows--well, it makes me want to die. It hurts my ears. It's just so much babble and it makes me feel claustrophobic. I hate it. And it's a thousand times worse if there's the tiniest bit of static. If Torsten could change one thing about me, this might be it--he loves the radio and background noise in general. He actually LIKES IT when our neighbors have loud parties while we're trying to sleep. Which one of us is the freak here? Because I think it's him.

3. The kitchen. It always needs to be CLEANED. And as soon as I've finished cleaning it, it's time to cook a meal and then the damn thing is dirty again. Not that Torsten doesn't do his share of cleaning the kitchen, but ugh. Just looking at a messy kitchen stresses me out, but I hate the process of cleaning it. I'm pretty sure I need a maid. And enough money to pay one.

4. People who don't respond to emails fast enough. Or, worse, people who do respond to emails but only answer one of multiple questions. Even if the email they're responding to neatly laid out the questions in a numbered list so that nothing could be missed.

5. Coats that are cut totally straight and so don't fit over my hips. Am I the only one who almost always has to go up at least one size when buying a winter jacket? I mean, I know I'm a pear shape, but for god's sake, most women have hips. Why would you make a coat that's the exact same width at the waist and hips? I just don't get it.

So, what's been bothering YOU these days?

  1. I CANNOT listen to the raving lunatics who call into radio shows. I HAVE to turn the station. It is EXCRUCIATING.

  2. I HATE morning radio talk shows. Cannot stand them. That's one of the main reasons I don't listen to the radio anymore. Those people make me want to stab pencils in my ears.

  3. I hate all radio EXCEPT for NPR.

Currently I'm being extra-bothered by bad dreams, self-doubt in my relationship, stubborn weight, and a coffee mug that can't seem to keep my java hot.

...and my inability to keep tabs on my lip gloss.

  4. I can listen to talk radio AS LONG as it's not a call in show. Because I'm of the belief that most people who have time to call in to radio shows are not the most intelligent people.

Also - I have to go one size up in winter coats usually to make the arms long enough (I'm 5'11"), so what I really wish is that more stores would have Tall sizes available IN STORE. A winter coat is something I'd like to try on, so I hate to order online.

Furthermore, why is it that my upstairs neighbor must keep her dog crated RIGHT ABOVE MY BED? She keeps ridiculous hours and I really hate waking up at 12:30 when she's letting the yappy little beast out of his crate.

Thank you, I'm apparently feeling some aggression this a.m.

  5. After one too many generic thyroid meds, I LAUNCHED OFF on the pharmacist, explaining that I needed brand name, and why was he doing this to me? WHYYY?

Apparently it's state law that they have to, unless you otherwise specify every time. So even if I got Armour or Synthroid last month, unless I say that I want the brand name when I call, they have to throw me the generic. Unless, of course, my doctor says no substitutions, which she ALWAYS forgets, and given that I get a scrip for 12 refills at a clip, there goes a year.

For me, however, today's gripe is blog readers and/or other bloggers who randomly facebook friend me with no explanation or identification. How lovely that YOU know ME, but I HAVE NO IDEA WHO YOU ARE. Maybe I know you on your blog name as SupaFly, but your name is Jennifer Smith. HOW AM I TO KNOW?

  6. CVS is a terrible place, and ridiculously expensive. I vote you leave them and start using a better pharmacy!

  7. What's bugging me today is that I'M DYING TO KNOW WHAT YOUR NEWS IS. Also, everyone in my house except my oldest child has some variation of the crud. By the time this afternoon is over, I will have spent $100 in doctor visit co-pays alone over the past week, not to mention prescriptions.

  8. I hate the no response/stupid response emails too! Especially when I put the questions in numbered or bullet form - could I make it any easier for you?

    ReplyDelete
  9. I like some talk radio, but I generally hate the morning shows on regular music-genre stations. They think they're so funny, but they're just stupid and rude. Whew.

I also hate people who live in Canada but can't seem to drive in snow (mostly because they can't be bothered to put on snow tires). Gah.

  10. Oh my gosh! I number my e-mail questions too when I'm trying to get information....and it drives me up the wall when someone doesn't follow my little system and doesn't answer my questions! How hard is that?!

I'm glad I'm in good company with this one.

  11. I also can't stand talk radio. At all. Listening to people stammering and umming and uhhing kills me.

  12. Apparently I like commenting in bullets today. My writing mode has been switched off. So:

    * NPR is my life force.
    * I am not even kidding.
    * No commute = no radio, though.
    * NPR podcasts = the best.
    * I'm so with you on number three.
    * The kitchen is ALWAYS messy.
    * Even after I clean it!
    * Now I get why my mom was always saying, "Am I the ONLY ONE cleaning the kitchen?"

    ReplyDelete
  13. So much is bugging me I would be taking over your comments if I unleashed it. I will concur with the noise though. I need silence. I even have earplugs by my bed so I can block out any noise. I'm very sensitive. I mute TV commercials for the same reason I don't listen to the radio.

  14. I hate pharmacies in general. Our pharmacy always has a line, and I spend my time wondering how many of the people waiting around me have an actual contagious disease. The number is probably small, but still.

What's really driving me crazy right now is that no matter how much I sleep lately, I'm still tired! I think it's winter's fault.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I have issues with the email thing as well. Right now, I am just really sick of my job.

    (Don't tell my boss.)

    ReplyDelete
  16. ARG! Number 2 all the way! Um, I'm referring to the number 2 item on your list, not the OTHER number 2...

    ReplyDelete
  17. Oh man, I am with you on #3. I simply can't function in a disorderly kitchen. If anybody ever needed information out of me and wanted to be cruel about it, all they'd need to do is force me to cook in a dirty kitchen. AUGH!

Our cats is the other thing that's driving me nuts these days, but only for two more weeks as we finally found them a new home. But I HATE the fact that they're so hairy; I vacuum and five minutes later, you can't even tell because there's so much cat hair on the carpet. Gr...

I bought a winter jacket a couple years ago - a Columbia one, I think - that was finally just right for my hips - thankfully - because, yes, it's really annoying.

  18. soooooo many things... :)
from whining kiddos to stupid builders...
    take your pick!
    :)

  19. People who do not return phone calls make me crazy. These people should not be allowed to have phones.

  20. CVS = Worst pharmacy ever.

And AMEN on talk radio! I HATE it. My radio is not supposed to talk. It is supposed to play music. I hate NPR, conservative talk radio, morning radio shows, dj's who talk too long between songs, everything that does not involve the playing of music.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Oh my GOD, the KITCHEN! Our kitchen is a mess right now, even though I cleaned it Friday and partially cleaned it again on Sunday. I have to say, it's mostly Ryan's fault. He's a great cook, but he likes to use MANY POTS for every meal. And utensils. And anything else he can find. So the dishes really pile up. I hate it, and it totally stresses me out, but I hate cleaning it all the time, so then it sits a day or two and I get even more stressed.

Also, I completely agree on the email thing. That is especially annoying to me with work stuff. This is your JOB people. Answer all the questions. Jeebus!

Wow. I didn't know I had so much pent-up anger. Thanks for letting me vent!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Ditto x 100 what you said (except #5 I can't get the stupid things over my boobs). I don't have enough time to write out why, but just know that I'm right there with ya, girl. And my kitchen is (always) a mess. Enough to make me pull my hair out and let dishes sit for at least a week. I know, I know. I'm a bad wife.

  23. i can definitely relate to the e-mail thing. i'm in the process of applying to jobs, and i want someone to respond right! this! minute! if i ask them for a meeting, recommendation letter, etc. patience is not a virtue i possess... :/

    ReplyDelete
  24. i don't mind talk radio of the NPR / news radio variety, but "morning shows" and anything with callers is EVIL.

    ReplyDelete
  25. On coats: I always have to size myself up due to the should width thing. It's not like I have man shoulders or anything either, I think I'm just large. We should probably all be using tailors far more than we are, but it takes forever just to pick something out; I can't imagine having to deal more with clothing after that other than putting it on.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I hate it when you set guidelines with clients and they NEVER get in touch with, especially when you've been e-mailing or calling them on a daily basis.

I hate how no one else in my office will pick up the phone. If it rings more than twice, answer it. I'm not the f'ing secretary. Grr...

I do like morning shows, but only if they are funny!

    ReplyDelete
  27. You always make me laugh, Jess; today is no exception! I say, find another pharmacy. Even if it's closer to Torsten's work or a little further of a walk, nothing says eff-you more than by taking your business elsewhere! I love NPR if for the mere fact that I HATE morning radio and will gladly listen to NPR over the DJ nonsense (JUNK!!!!) any day! And and and, I'd tell you what else bothers me, only I've already crafted a blog post regarding that for later this week. Great minds... =)

  28. Ugh! I hate it when I chat the boy and he only answers one of the multiple questions I asked!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Number 3 and number 5, definitely. I fucken hate my kitchen!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Oh my goodness, we are all too similar. My biggest frustrations are two of yours- messy kitchens, and talk radio.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Oh I hate when people only answer 1 question out of multiple in an email. Read the whole thing! I also cannot stand to be interrupted. People close to me have learned that if they interrupt me, I'll just stop talking about whatever it was all together.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I hear ya with the kitchen business! My kitchen is ALWAYS a mess. I cook all the time so it's never really clean. Even though I have a cleaning lady it doesn't help. It's clean for 7 seconds and then I go and mess it right back up again.

    ReplyDelete
  33. AMEN!

  34. See I'm annoyed by anything that doesn't assume a woman has breasts! Vera Wang (even her stuff for Kohls) and J. Crew are THE WORST. I have broad shoulders and sizable boobs so I'm always going up a size in suit jackets and anything that doesn't have some stretch to it. I've given up entirely on button-down shirts.

    ReplyDelete
  35. torsten is the weirdo. i have to have it silent when i sleep.

    ReplyDelete
  36. The djs on the radio annoy me too. Just play music!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I like morning talk shows if they are FUNNY. Did you ever listen to Mark and Cris on 99.5 (they're in Florida now)? I swear they were SO FUNNY. Then they got kicked off the air b/c they wanted more money. Bah!

    ReplyDelete
  38. You know what bothers me? Not being able to fall asleep because I have so much to DO and so much on my mind, but then being too tired the next day to actually ACCOMPLISH.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Ditto that on the talking on the radio. PTL for XM radio when I only have to hear the station plug every 30 minutes or so. I don't want to hear anyone talk to me in the morning until I'm forced to start the workday.

My biggest pet peeve is people standing to close to me in the check out line. Pleas let me place my change in my wallet and my wallet in my purse before you crowd up to the register - GAH!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Hate the radio too- thus MP3 player baby!

As for winter coats- I will search high and low for a coat that fits over my breasts and hips... one that hopefully also accentuates my waist. And those are hard to find... Perseverance!

Looking forward to tomorrow- can't wait to hear what the secret is!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Oh my gosh talking on the radio is horrible. There is this one lady radio person whose name I can't remember, but she talks so much. My sister and I were in the car one time and a song was over and she started talking. We listened for a few minutes thinking it wouldn't be that much talking but then she kept going. We turned the radio and like 15 minutes later we turned it back and she was still talking about the same topic. Now when we hear her we just turn it right away.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I am also bothered by coats these days. I tried to buy a new one, but none of them fit right and I think it's the same problem you have, except in reverse (i.e. my boobs, not my hips). HATE.

  43. Talk radio (generally the am stations) actually make me go into convulsions and my heart-rate speed up. I get full-blown anxiety attacks listening to talk radio.

  45. Torsten LIKES loud neighbors?? Don't worry. You're totally the normal one in that scenario. :-)

  46. Oh, #2. We don't listen to morning radio because the DJs are offensive idiots, and the people who call in sounds like poor trashy sluts. Sad sad sad.
