Wedding makeup trial, round two

So, on Friday I wound up going with the vocal minority and wearing the red dress. It worked out fine. In fact, any of the three outfits would have been fine. I was about in the middle of the pack and I didn't stand out really at all.

I also took advantage of the fact that I was dressing up and going out to do a second wedding makeup trial. It wasn't that different from the first one, but I took all of your comments into consideration and made a few changes:
  • I used a different (and better) waterproof mascara and curled my eyelashes.
  • I changed to a slightly more bronze-y blush and applied more of it.
  • I applied eyeshadow more heavily (although not THAT heavily as per my wedding makeup philosophy).
  • My eyebrows have been threaded and I used brow pencil.
  • I used a clear primer under the foundation
  • I took pictures in natural light (plus flash) before and after makeup application for better comparative purposes.
Again, the point is not to look dramatic and glam, but just to look like a fresh, soft, pretty, even-skinned version of myself.

So, onto the before pictures. Here I am, freshly scrubbed and moisturized but makeup free:

And then after applying all the makeup:

So... what do you think?

  1. I like what you've done with adding more eyeliner. But I still think just a few false eyelashes!!

  4. Beautiful look! Very classy. It's the perfect amount of make-up, too...but I agree with some of the other comments, I'd be interested to see how a few false eyelashes would look! False eyelashes are just fun anyway :]

  11. I'll wear the Debbie Downer hat here, and say I might personally go for less eye liner. (remember that this coming from somebody who never wears eyeliner and rarely rarely goes beyond the mascara-bronzer combo and often goes makeupless)... Your skin looks great though!

  12. Holy crap, you look sooooo pretty. You should definitely do your own make-up. If you go rosy-cheeked in times of excitement, I'd downplay the blush so you're not double-rosy.

  13. I think it looks great. Love the eyes and lips. I'm not a huge blush fan but that's because I go rosey cheeked without makeup especially when I get excited or something.

  14. I'm happy to hear you wore the red dress. :-)

  15. hot damn. can you come do my makeup for special events??

the difference is so awesome, because you don't look "made up" in the 2nd set, but it's definitely a difference. are you using anything specific as under-eye concealer? it looks GREAT and my under-eye-area does NOT.

Also... love the makeup... don't change a thing.

I love the makeup. I don't know about false eyelashes, the thought scares me. I think your look looks great!

  25. Love it! And I'm going to jump on the falsie train (that sounds so wrong), a few fake eyelashes would be awesome. But even if you don't? You will still look absolutely sensational!

  26. I love it, I loooove it! I think it looks simple, classic but I like Slynnro think a few false lashes on the edges will make all the difference. Especially in pictures. Think about it!

  27. It looks great!!!! I love the lip color.

  28. Beautiful! I absolutely love it! Torsten is a lucky fellow.

  29. Gorgeous! I also love the lip color, and the added eye liner really makes your eyes stand out.

  30. You look gorgeous! But I am still going to insist on BIGGER eyelashes. I see people pushing for fake ones - or more mascara would work. The last time I had my make up done she put coats of mascara on the both sides of the lashes (does that make sense?) that technique could work.

  31. OHMIGOSH, LOVE the eyebrows! I still think you could rock a little more eyeliner on the top... in that one trial with the heavier liner, it really accentuated (sp?) your "bedroom eyes". Raor! *clawing*

  32. I think you look lovely! Definitely not overdone, but totally pulled together and beautiful.

  33. you look great! i think the eyeliner makes a dramatic, yet romantic look. :-)

  34. Second photo without makeup, and second photo with makeup are both totally gorgeous.
I love the look, and I think it's awesome that you don't feel the need to pay someone to do your makeup for the wedding.

Also, I didn't get in on the dress voting, but I totally would have gone red! It was such a hot dress.

  35. LOVE it! You look clean, fresh and ready to get married!

  36. Looks great! I think if you play up your eyes a bit more it will be absolutely perfect!

  37. Yay for going with the red dress. It was super cute.

I also like your make up a ton. Good job.

False eyelashes are semi-annoying even though the look great. If you are going to use them, I recommend practicing applying them because if you don't put them on right they'll bug you all night!

  38. I think it's a good look overall, definitely. Beautiful colors and very flattering. I'd maybe tone the blush down a touch if your wedding is going to be outdoors or in really good lighting, and leave it as-is if you're going to be somewhere a little dimmer or with mood lighting.

  39. Okay first of all: you have such beautiful skin. I thought you had make-up on in the first two.

I love the additional eyeliner. Also, did you add something to your lips? They look very rose-buddy.

    Loves.

  40. I LOVE the make-up. Natural but some definition. It looks great.

  41. Jess, this is my first time commenting on your blog. I love how you look soft, pretty and natural in these photos. I'd echo re the false eyelashes. My makeup artist put some on me for my wedding and it's not what I'd normally wear but they looked awesome and really looked natural in the pics.

  44. Too much blush... otherwise, it looks great!

  45. I think it's a bit too much blush, but the eyes look *fantastic*!

Also, I am super-jealous of your skin tone. I would never share a "just-washed-face" photo with the universe...
