- My French host father called me yesterday to confirm that he, his wife, and the youngest of my three host siblings will be at the wedding. They officially bought their plane tickets and reserved the hotel room. I have been PLEADING with these people to come visit me in the U.S. for SEVEN YEARS. They always said they wouldn't come until the next president was elected (Bush is not very popular overseas, I've noticed), and then they promised that they'd come for my wedding. I'm pretty sure they did not think I'd get married at 24, but I THWARTED THEM. The wedding is THREE DAYS before the election. HA. Just kidding. But seriously, I am dying of excitement over this.
- Tons of other people I love and care about and haven't seen in ages will also be here for the wedding. Although, can I say that as far as visiting with old friends goes, a wedding is pretty much the most inconvenient time for someone to come to town? We will be frantically trying to take care of a million last-minute details, and meanwhile everyone that we love and want to see will be in town simultaneously, and only for three days. Seriously, if you want to spend some quality time with a friend? Pick any time OTHER than their wedding to visit them.
- Yesterday someone asked me when the wedding was, and for the first time in the year-plus that we've been engaged, when they heard the answer, they did NOT say, "Oh, so you still have plenty of time." Instead she said, "Wow, you seem calm." Implying that the wedding is close! Finally, somebody other than me feels that way!
- We found a purple guestbook! AND it holds Polaroids. In other words, it is PERFECT.
- I have an engaged friend! She came over this weekend and we got pedicures and watched 27 Dresses (terrible, terrible movie, by the way. Even for what it is. We could not keep our faces straight while we watched it. It was just too awful) and talked about wedding dresses and reception sites and all other sort of nonsense that nobody cares about but engaged people. And when she left, she took half of my wedding magazine collection with her. THANK GOD. That pile was getting out of control.
- And finally, one non-wedding-related thing: This weekend a college friend and I are driving to upstate New York to spend a weekend at a country house with two more of our besties from school. There will be board games, and grilling out, and sitting in the creek, and a fire, and lots of wine. This weekend has been two years in the making, and it is going to be AWESOME.

ReplyDeleteHow exciting! I'd be bouncing off the walls if I was you!
ReplyDeleteNO wonder you're cheerful! All great!
ReplyDeleteWhat's making me cheerful is that it's Friday and tomorrow D will be home.
James WhatEverHisFace was the one redeeming bit of that crappy movie for me.
ReplyDeleteYour guestbook is SO cute - I'm getting married in September and I feel SO behind compared to you! lol
ReplyDeleteI'm going to have to paw through your archives and drool over the planning = ) I think you have another addicted reader!
I just emphasized so twice in one sentence...please excuse my Friday chipper-ness, I've obviously got to ease off the coffee lol
ReplyDeleteIt's so exciting that your host family is coming! I hope you at least get a chance to visit with them, since they are coming from so far away! Otherwise, I agree that a wedding is not a good time to catch up. The bride and groom are too busy! A while ago, I declined a wedding invite because it would be just that, and I knew it wouldn't be as much fun for me.
ReplyDeleteAww, I really like 27 Dresses. It was hilarious.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you have an awesome weekend planned. Hope you have tons of fun!
I'm cheerful that it's Friday, and I have a busy, but fun weekend ahead of me.
What is making me cheerful is that you are going to a DIFFERENT part of Upstate NY (presumably, because I will be really mad otherwise)next month, and that I am COMING TO DC. Whew.
ReplyDeleteOh, also, new couches, half days, and puppies. And cute guys at the car rental place flirting with me. Doesn't hurt.
xox
Nothing is making me cheerful lately and that is a sad state of affairs.
ReplyDeleteBut your weekend sounds lovely- fantastic- wonderful and I hope you live it up!
See now I thought 27 Dresses was actually cute (for what it was). But I've been liking lots of crappy movies lately. Not sure what that means...
ReplyDeleteWe had a teeny wedding, but we just had our reception July 27 and it made me SO happy to see all of the people that came from far and wide to celebrate with us. I can totally relate to your giddiness :) It was stressful for me that I couldn't spend the time with them that I wanted to, but they all understood.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy that my husband has found a job that he loves, after his first nursing stint that made him miserable.
Enjoy your weekend with friends!
Well, at this very moment, I'm enjoying a South Beach Living (oh, please people we know it's a diet) Buffalo Chicken Pizza and damn is it good!
ReplyDeleteI need a weekend like yours!
karaoke tonight! happy happy!
ReplyDeleteKnowing it's the weekend is making me happy. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your French family is able to come to your wedding. That will be so much fun!
Sounds like everything is going great for you...I can't wait to start getting close and checking big things off my list.
ReplyDeleteYay for wedding nearness and an organized bride! I still can't wait to see pictures!
ReplyDeleteI'm cheery that it's Friday and that Seattle's 90 degree heat wave lasted only one day. Bring on the 70s!
27 Dresses was a good IDEA, but the actual movie was disappointing.
ReplyDeleteI know, right? At my first wedding, which was a guest-wedding, I actually felt sad and left-out, because all the family spent lots of time having fun while we were on our honeymoon!
ReplyDeleteI'm cheery because I'm going to bake salt brownies! And because I have secret plans!
yay! glad you're having a fantastic fri! annnd your wknd sounds absolutely lovely!
ReplyDeletewhat's making me happy lately- knowing that GF will always be there for me no matter what and no matter what we fight about- or for how long. :)
My step sister is getting married next April, and she has decided to make her own wedding cake. She is an amazing baker and dedicated perfectionist, and when I came home yesterday she had preppared SEVEN sample cakes!!! All recipes from the Martha Stewert Wedding Cake book no less... amazing.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like everything is going so well! That's awesome. What I'm cheerful about is the beautiful weather and the great play my family saw today. Also next weekend I'm going to a friend's cabin and all the details are getting cemented RIGHT NOW! So yay!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you're getting excited and you'll have fun wedding guests. That's so great that your host father and family will be there! That's great news.
ReplyDeleteawww I actually liked 27 dresses! I thought it was adorable :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm going home to see my parents in less than two weeks! And between now and then I have a weekend away (for a wedding), a Radiohead concert, and backstage passes Jack Johnson. Yayyy!
ReplyDeleteI just spent three hours with a friend I haven't seen in two years...in her messy house, eating grilled cheese and talking over our kids and then I vacuumed her floor and it was just like old times. :)
ReplyDeleteSo many reasons to be cheerful!
ReplyDeleteA close friend of mine is getting married a week AFTER you. She's from a family of hard core Dems (her dad is chief of staff for a US Rep) and she's been worried that if the election goes in the way we don't want it to go, that her wedding will be full of depressed and disappointed liberals.
Your date is much better, I think. :)
