Family portraits and holiday card help

A few weeks ago we headed out to the foothills to have family photos taken by the same amazing photographer who did our maternity photos back in December. It was chilly and gray, sadly, but we had a great time and the photos still turned out amazing. Seriously, Kristy is my favorite photographer ever. I have never liked so many photos of myself, ever. She is just that talented. And super nice and really affordable too. I cannot recommend her highly enough for anyone in Colorado looking to get pictures taken, no matter the occasion. I am thinking maybe we'll make pictures with her an annual thing? Which would be an awesome way to document our family and also get some holiday card-worthy pictures in the bargain.

So, a few days ago she posted some teaser pictures on her blog, and then yesterday the disc with all the high-res images arrived in the mail, so now! Now we have so many to choose from! And by "choose from" I mean "for our holiday card."

Here are some (OK, a lot) of my favorites (some holiday card contenders, some not at all right for that):

And then the full set is here (and when I say full, I mean full).

So, what do you think? Do any of the photos stand out to you as particularly excellent holiday card candidates?

  1. I think the first one and the third one would make great cards! Or perhaps one of them (1 or 3) with a side picture of #2 so everyone can see that sweet face!

  4. Much as I love my friends' children, I really really love holiday cards with the entire family b/c I want to see my friends, too. Which is why I vote for the card with all of you while you're holding T's hand. It's a great shot of all of you, Callum looks adorable and I love the look on your face. It's perfection.

That being said, I have the worst time choosing for my own family b/c I love them all!

  5. For holiday cards, I like the one of you and Torsten holding hands or the one of Callum looking up at Torsten. They are all really great photos!

    my faves for the card:
-the b&w white one of all 3 of you where you're lifting callum over your head
-i do adore the 1st one, but i feel like i'd be sad i couldn't see any of you close up
-that second to last one of just callum KILLS ME. love.

  8. I think it depends on YOUR style. Some families like to focus on the child only. If that's the case, I say Image 0976 (from Flickr - love the holiday color of the barn!).

Other families like to highlight the whole family. I actually like photo #8 from this post ... legs of you, Torsten and Montana with Callum as the focus. I also like Image 1097 for the whole family - would probably look great in color, too!

You've got a lot of great choices - nice job!

  9. I love number six and then the last one. The ones of Callum were obviously precious, but I agree with Shelly, I love holiday cards that feature EVERYONE- which I failed on last year, but this year I am going to be in our card, dang it!

  11. My favorite is number 3. It's good of all of you; you all look natural; and it feels like it accurately reflects the stage of life you're in this year: baby! dog! happy couple! slightly rustic environment! I'd put that sucker right on my fridge and feel happy each time I saw it. Some of the others are GORGEOUS but seem more like Beautiful Art Shots than Christmas Card Photos.
