What should I wear to my sister's wedding?

So, as I may have already mentioned, my sister is getting married in DC next week. This is the second wedding for both her and her fiance, and it will not be a big, traditional affair. Only immediate family (parents, siblings, and children) will be there, and there is no bridal party or anything like that. There will be no big white dress. In fact, my sister is wearing a knee-length purple dress. (She likes purple as much as I do.)

Her dress is fancy, though, fancier than anything I own, so she will definitely stand out. So it's not like I have to stay away from purple because that's the bride's color. In fact, as far as we're both concerned, the more purple the better.

Of course, my options are limited, since the vast majority of my formal dresses are way too big by now. In fact, I have only three options, which certainly makes picking a dress easier. Luckily, two of them are purple.

Anyway! Let's look at the three dresses, shall we? I'm leaning strongly toward one of them, but I definitely want to hear opinions from others.

Dress A (some longtime readers may remember that I wore this dress to my rehearsal dinner--which was on Halloween, in case it isn't obvious from the photo--when I was significantly heavier, but apparently it's very flexible with its sizing, because it still fits):

Dress B:

Dress C:

So what do you think? Which one should I wear?

  1. Correction: I like purple more than you :-)

I like Dress A the best for this occasion.

Sorry I didn't send you a picture of the dress I'll be wearing...

  2. I know you love purple but I feel that dress B is really figure flattering on you. The top and bottom of the dress are giving you a beautiful hourglass figure.

Second choice would be dress C, which again is giving you a lovely figure.

I think maybe becuase Dress A is a larger size, it's not framing your body that well.

and I watch way too much What Not to Wear.

  3. Oh, C!! Fancy, and classy, and just lovely. You look great.

  4. First of all, you look GREAT!

Secondly, I adore dress C on you.

  5. I like C best. It's purple (yay!), and it fits nicely. It's also very classy and sophisticated, which sounds like it would suit the occasion.

  6. A! I know you've already worn it, but I DO NOT CARE. It's BEAUTIFUL.

  7. I LOVE C. It looks great on you :)

  8. I like the shape to dress B - it is very figure flattering. But, while I actually really like the pattern, it's busy and a little distracting to the eye (I'm thinking about wedding photos here and where the eye is drawn). I also really like the dress you wore for your rehearsal dinner, so I'm going with Dress A for this vote!

  9. I like the top of C and the skirt of B... so can you do some quick sewing and make that happen? You may also need some fabric dye.. lol.

Honestly? Whichever one you are most comfortable in, because they are all beautiful!

  10. ooh C definitely! very flattering on your shape

  15. They all look good, but I vote A or B. Look at those skinny little calves down there! You look fantastic.

  16. Definitely C. I love it! Purple is my favorite color also.

  17. I say dress C. It is really gorgeous, and you look great in it! Have fun!

  18. I love the shape of C on you, so that's my choice, followed by B. I also like that C appears to be a little bit plum, so I'm thinking your sister's dress won't match exactly, and you'll have a nice variation for photos.

  19. I think dress B has a lovely shape to it, but also dress C is a gorgeous colour. They're my favourites!

  20. Oh C! It is so flattering for your figure!

    ReplyDelete
  21. C! It elongates your torso and slims your waist while at the same time being dressy enough for a wedding.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Definitely C! That one is really flattering! In fact.. where'd you get that? I could use a new dress, too. :)

    ReplyDelete
  23. I am also voting for C! You look good in all of the dresses, but I think you look the best in C.

    ReplyDelete
  24. B! B! B! I love the shape of B on you. Also, what shoes would you wear with each dress? That will help complete the picture. But still... B!!!!!

    Mon

  25. Love C - great cut, shape and color. B is my 2nd choice, love the silhouette that one gives. But go with C.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I like them all - which is unusual for me - so you can't really go wrong. I think I am leaning towards Dress C because is it a great color and an interesting cut. The structure of it is really fun. Add some heels and away you go!

  27. Jeez, this is a hard choice, they're ALL so great! I like the two purple ones best. The first one I like how it ties into your own wedding (I had a casual wedding dress for my own wedding, and in fact it was green with flowers, and I loved wearing it to other people's weddings). The second one I like a little better overall, but for a reason I can't put a finger on.

OMG have you guys seen all the PURPLE STUFF in stores?? I saw purple measuring cups/spoons at Target, a really good strong purple. And Home Goods has had a ton of purple stuff too.

  28. Go with C. It looks great on you! So do the others, but C looks the best in my opinion.

  33. C! C! I think it creates a really flattering waist.

    ReplyDelete
  34. C is so cute! Well actually they all are, and look nice, but I think C is just a 10! Looks great and what a fun color!

    ReplyDelete
  35. ha, looks like the comment section is going to be too split to offer you much help.. :-) my vote is for C, whatever that's worth!

    ReplyDelete
  36. You look great!

    I vote C! Love it!

Second choice B, third A, but you look wonderful in all! :)

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  55. Hands down dress B!! It photographs really well and looks fantastic on you!!!

    ReplyDelete
  56. im going with Dress A, but as a second? C.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Ohhhh so I love Dress C, the color is fabulous and you look fabulous in it. However, I also love Dress A and you can just tell you love that dress! Either way you go, you're going to look stunning!

It was so nice FINALLY meeting you last night!!

    ReplyDelete
  58. C for sure. You've already worn A - and B could be dressed up/dressed down enough that you could wear it a lot. C is dressier (& therefore, you might not get as many wears out of it).

    ReplyDelete
  59. Oh, wow. I think C is the most flattering, and B is just so pretty. Very hard to decide! I think I would go with C for this occassion, though. :)

    ReplyDelete
  60. I like them all... But LOVE 'C'. That's my choice.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Handsdown, no question it's C by a mile. Followed by B.

    ReplyDelete
  62. 71 comments already! Guess I'm late, late, late to the party. I love them all, really, I do. If I had to pick I'd say I like the first one best. But I can't say why, probably because they are all lovely.

  64. I really like C on you! Love the top, and it's flattering to your figure!

B is my next favourite. Then A.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I'm going to go with B or C. I love A, too, but it seems like more of a summery dress.

And I have a dress almost identical to C, except it has little cap sleeves! I love that color. But I really like the print on B.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Dress C!!

Your body gets completely lost in dress A and dress C is a great color and hits you at the exact right spot in the waist.

    You look great!!

    ReplyDelete
  72. I'd like to put in my vote for C.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I like C the best. It's beautiful and structured, and it looks terrific on you. Plus I love how the color is more plummy than simply purple.
