Wedding week!

So is it wrong that I am inordinately excited about the fact that UPS claims to be delivering our save-the-dates today? The tracking system says that it is "out for delivery" right now. At this very moment! I am actually thrilled about going home, picking up my purple pen, and addressing sixty envelopes. I mean, I'm sure that excitement will be long gone by the third envelope, but I'm going to hang on to it for as long as possible. Because finally, something tangible for the wedding! Of course, this means Torsten needs to get on translating our wedding website into German, because once the save-the-dates go out, people will actually have the URL of the site. (Sweetie, I know you're reading this. Please, take note.)

And THEN, tomorrow, I am going to meet with our day-of coordinator about table linens. And I know that it's just table linens but also it's about purple! And details! And things actually happening! Because suddenly it's late February and our wedding is only eight months away! And that does not feel far at all. And I am so excited.

AND THEN. On Friday, we are driving down to North Carolina, so that on Saturday, my mother and sister and I can go to the big bridal superstore near my parents' house to peruse the selection of well over 1,000 different dresses, including more than 150 dresses available in plus sizes. So either my sister or I should be able to fit into pretty much all of them to try on. And I KNOW the store is good because my sister got her wedding dress there, so I have been there before and seen that they really do have the most unbelievably wide collection of dresses and sizes that one could possibly imagine.

And not to get all insane bride here, but oh my god I am so so excited and I have been looking forward to this for ages and if I don't find a dress here that I like better than my current front-runner then I will KNOW that that is the one. And if I DO find a dress that I like better then I will also know that THAT is the one. A whole day! Surrounded by wedding dresses! In a low-stress atmosphere without pushy salespeople! And so many options!

I am a tad bit excited, here, in case you couldn't tell from all the exclamation points. And the fact that I'm excited is making me more excited, because this is the first time that I have felt Really! Excited! about the dress shopping. It's like, suddenly I've realized that our wedding is going to happen, and it's going to be soon, and it's going to be FUN.

  16. Also, if you want to have fun playing with linens before your meeting, check out bbjlinens.com. You can combine and do all of that fun stuff.

(I did a purple and lime green wedding with linens from there)

  30. Yay for Wedding Week!

Whenever you talk about purple for the wedding, I keep thinking of my aunt's wedding photos. She LOVES purple, and had each of her 8 bridesmaids wear a different shade of purple. You wouldn't think there'd be 8 different shades, but there is.

  31. YAY!! YAY!! YAY!! I love the wedding talk!! I really hope you find a dress!!

  35. YAY!! I loved planning my wedding and doing all the weddingy stuff that went with it. The best part, in my opinion, was the cake-tasing. Mmmm. ANyway - if you don't have luck at the superstore this weekend, I highly recommend Priscilla of Boston. Granted, they don't have plus-size dresses available for try-on - but they also will make you feel like it is completely normal to not be able to zip up the sample dress and they will make you feel beautiful and princessy. It's where I got mine, and I will always love them.

  36. It all sounds so fun! I like that dress a lot. The surest way to know if it is "the one" is to bring a relative or BFF around and see if they cry when they see you in it. Tears=bingo!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Yay! Now I feel excited!! Have fun with all this wedding stuff!!!!

  38. You have every right to be excited. For as much money as you dish out, it seems like forever before you get to enjoy any of it. That's great your save the dates are almost home! It made it very real when I had them in my hands. Addressed the envelopes. Stuffed the envelopes. And purchased the stamps.

One bit of advice for your wedding dress extravaganza: Bring bottled water. Lots of it. I got so dehydrated from trying on so many dresses, my "adult sippie cup" was a life saver!

  39. You're not sounding like in insane bride. You have every reason to be jumping with SQUEE's. It is all coming together so well, enjoy it!

  40. I enjoyed dress shopping so much that I returned the first one, along with the veil and shoes, just so I could pick everything out again!
No, actually I just changed my mind. But I wasn't disappointed to have to look at dresses again!

  41. OMG! OMG! You are making me so excited and it's not even my wedding. I am so happy for you. It's your day so be as excited as you want! Good luck with the dress.

  42. One of the best moments in our whole wedding-planning process was the day the invitations (and matching thank-you notes) arrived. They came in, like, two large boxes, and they were even more beautiful than I'd imagined---because they had OUR info on them, not some fake Janet's info!

    ReplyDelete
  43. You have ME excited about weddings and I'm not even getting married! Here's to a wonderful week for you and wedding details. Sounds awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I'm excited for you, too - you're a little bit infectious with the joy. It comes across :). Yay weddings, and especially yay for dresses. Don't forget to take a camera because of course we'll be wanting to nose in on the decision making.

  45. yay!

i'm so excited about your wedding. good luck with all of the planning.

  46. Let me just say- Day of Coordinator? WISEST DECISION EVER.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Have fun dress hunting! Buy when you find it! I found "the dress" and then when I went back to buy it, it wasn't available. Grrr! I still found a beautiful dress, but it wasn't "that" dress.

  48. Purple! Dresses! Excitement!
    Have fun, my dear!

  49. Yay! Wedding excitement is awesome. I can't wait to watch your purple wedding become real!

  50. This is way too much work. If I ever get married (ha ha ha) I'm so going to convince my husband that we should spend the money on a fancy honeymoon rather than a big wedding reception.

  51. Yay for wedding excitement! And good luck on the dress hunt.

  52. You're great! So much excitement. I can remember that.....I heart weddings!
