Everybody loves a long weekend.

So, last night we went to a hockey game, the first I'd ever attended. I'm not a violent person, but I was kind of hoping there would be fights so I could see the legendary blood bouncing on ice. Tragically, that didn't happen, but there was plenty of body slamming and even a couple of fist fights. Hockey is such a violent sport. The game ended in a tie, so there was a shootout that lasted twelve rounds before anyone actually made a goal. I always wondered how hockey players managed to score with such a tiny goal. Apparently, it's as difficult as it looks.

Anyway, today is the start of my four(!)-day-weekend, so this isn't going to be much of a post. Instead, I leave you with the photo of Brooke, Toby, and myself that I wanted to include with this post but did not, at the time, have scanned:

Have a great weekend! What are your plans?

  1. I've always wanted to go to a hockey game, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. I love me some unnecessary violence. And also the sound of skating.

  3. I come from a family of hockey fanatics (my dad's cousin coached the Gophers and if you're from MN, well then you know that coaching the Gophers is like HUGE). I love hockey, but I hate the NHL so if you went to an NHL game, let me advise you to try a college game sometime. Much better hockey.

This weekend will be filled with huddling inside (supposed to be ridiuclously cold here in Chicago) and wishing the dogs would learn to let themselves outside, or use the toilet. Also, football!

  4. I loooove hockey!!! Its odd, because I'm not a violent person AT ALL but i love how violent that sport is.

    I never said I wasn't weird.

Have a FANTASTIC 4 day weekend!!

  5. I'm with Flib, you just can't beat college hockey.

I really have nothing for this weekend. I'm sure we will catch some football, and cooking and child care will be involved, and BLAH.

  6. Nothing this weekend except taking one of the kids to a friend's birthday party.

  7. Yay long weekend. I am so very excited. We're supposed to get snow! Actual snow, not freezing rain!

  8. Enjoy your four-day weekend!

I actually prefer to watch high school/ jr league hockey to the NHL. I'm the same with basketball... sometimes it's nicer to watch at a slightly slower pace.

  10. I love hockey live. I don't really have the patience for it on TV, but live is a different story.

I cannot WAIT for the weekend. Lots of wedding stuff, lots of football, lots of me sitting on my ass. Should be good.

  11. Dude! When I went to my first hockey game I was hoping for the same thing, hahaha.

This weekend? I just plan on going to my guitar lesson (WHOOHOOO) and forcing my tenant out of my apartment. She hasn't paid in 2 months. Meh. Definitely NOT looking forward to that.

  12. We will be fleeing town so that our realtor can host an open house here and (please please for the love of all that is good) convince someone to buy our house! And I will be gleefully using my Target giftcards in this other town to which we will flee, since there IS no Target in this miserable swamp.

  13. Ooo, the fights are definitely the most entertaining part of the hockey game, for me.

An art gallery and dinner with a boy! ;)

And SNOW. Yay! (keepin' my fingers crossed. I don't have much faith in our meteorologists.)

Have a nice 4 day weekend!

  14. I'm not a violent person, either, but I LOVE a good sports fight. I get so excited when I see one erupting. I also love it when basketball coaches get technical fouls. Something about the passion involved is appealing to me.

No big plans for the weekend, but those are the best kind!

  15. We've been to plenty of hockey games. There is a local UHL team and a local college team. We used to go about a half dozen games a year. Now we try to at least go to a couple per year with our son. Lots of fun!

  18. It makes me immensely happy that you enjoyed your first hockey game, especially considering I bet your were there for a *really* long time given all the OT and shootout stuff.
This weekend D and I are continuing our home renovations in preparation for selling the house. We're doing most of it on our own (except for re-tiling the bathrooms) and I can tell you that each project is a very "special" experience. For the life of us, we cannot figure out how two people that appear to be so smart just seem to ride front seat on the short bus when we try to do home renovations.

So, this weekend: tomorrow, I'm going to the Hopper exhibit at the NGA with my sister and her friend, followed by a photo safari with the aforementioned sibling. Sunday, I'm hoping to lay low. Monday, probably go over to my parents for a little bit. Maybe I'll bake cookies on Sunday. I just found a recipe I want to try.

  34. Cute picture. Enjoy your four-day weekend. I could go for one of those myself. :-(

Weather.com says that the "feels like" temperature here right now is -20. Hence, my weekend plans are to stay warm (and to try not to worry too much about how frighteningly high my next heating bill is going to be!).

  35. I went to my first hockey game about a month ago and YES! they are very fun. teehee!

  38. I used to be a huge hockey fan. I loved the Flyers (I grew up in the Lehigh Valley!).

I went back and read the post from December. What a great post. It made me nostalgic for some of my college friends with whom I've lost touch. But it also reminded me how happy I am that one of them remains my best friend.

  39. Many moons ago, I had season tickets to the Wash. Capitals. They were much better back then The games were always a blast! It think it's more about the screaming than the game.

This weekend, I'll be doing a little of this, and that. I wrote a blog about it, check it out.

  43. Hockey games can be enjoyed by everyone, no matter what they think of the game. The possibility of a fight is more exciting than the fight itself. Also, you've been tagged :)
