I don't know about the rest of Denver, but I seriously love snow, and I am really hoping that the promised snowstorm materializes with many inches. I know, I'm bad, wishing for ruined commutes and a city getting shut down, but I LOVE SNOW. And last winter, our first in Denver, was extremely mild.
I mean, you guys, we are READY for snow. The car has snow tires. We both have proper snow boots. The only member of our household (counting the car as a household member) who doesn't have special snow gear is the dog, and I'm relatively sure that her fur will be sufficient.
I also purchased earmuffs, the nice kind that fit around the back of your head instead of on the top like a headband. AND I bought a fleece-lined hat with ear flaps. I know, that should negate the need for earmuffs, but sometimes I don't FEEL like wearing a hat, but I still don't want my ears to be cold. So, I purchased both and now I'm set for any eventuality. Right?
OK, here's a photo of me in the hat. Don't judge:
We also have salt, and a snow shovel, and we're prepared to use them both! Well, actually, we already put down some of the salt. And we put our nice patio furniture in the garage, and picked up the dog's toys that were lying around the yard so they wouldn't end up buried there for the rest of the winter.
Also, you know how they always say you should stock up before a snowstorm? Buy gallons of water and whatnot? Well... we didn't do that. But we did bring in a bunch of firewood so it wouldn't get wet, and got some groceries so that we won't suffer for meals if we need to stay home for the next couple days.
Can I just say how much I love working from home at times like this? No worrying about the commute, no worrying about getting stuck somewhere, no worry about heinous snow-related traffic jams. Just home, with a fireplace and a doggy and unlimited hot chocolate. Dreamy.
Update: I took a video of Montana prancing in the snow we have so far (and as an aside, it's looking like we WILL be getting that ton of snow they've been predicting, since this isn't supposed to stop until tomorrow):
Now, let's just hope all these inches of snow actually materialize. It started snowing last night at around 9:00, and we took the dog for a walk before bed. By the time we went to sleep there was at least an inch of snow on the ground. Now I'm just hoping that all the promised other inches really show up, and that the storm doesn't just fizzle out. Because like I said? We are SET.

so???? how much snow do you have so far?? did I mention I hate you? :-) just kidding. Though at least when the rest of us normal people get snow days, we can enjoy a relaxing day home from work, whereas I suppose you will just have to work anyway, since you'd already be at home regardless of weather...
ReplyDeleteDon't you need a tarp or something to put over the rest of your firewood? I mean, it's just a guess, but this snowstorm is only the first of many!
ReplyDeleteAlso, a friend of mine who lives in Denver was just complaining on Facebook about how terrible Denver is with plowing the streets. I don't get that. Denver gets a ton of snow. How can they be bad at plowing?
I'd like to get through Halloween, then the snow can fly whenever it's ready. Of course, we still have a ton of leaves to rake and even more yet to fall, so perhaps we should get to those too.
ReplyDeleteAHH! I'm jealous! Well, at least for now. In January, when I'm so pregnant you'll be able to roll me around, I probably won't appreciate the snow so much (plus, we don't get many huge dumpings of it because it's so FRICKING COLD here all winter). For now, though, I will live vicariously through you. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteUgh. You CO newbies and your hopes for snow. The out of state kids always drove me nuts in school with their dreams of good ski snow :). JK, still love you. My boss is currently freaking out about the fact that my flight to her conference was cancelled. Out of my hands.
ReplyDeleteI too love snow! But, I don't like it to arrive until late November at the earliest!
ReplyDeleteOh, and it's true about the plowing. A total disaster - especially in Denver. And I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but especially in your neighborhood - that part of Denver is not the mayor's favorite for voting reasons, so it often is the last addressed.
ReplyDeleteI think I would appreciate the snow day today more if I hadn't woken up at midnight and 3, and then stayed up since 3, and had two kids and no vacation time.
ReplyDeleteAm exhausted.
The snow only gets to me when I'm trying to leave the state. Then it's a pain.
The hat is cute. :-)
ReplyDeleteYou have reminded me that I need to stock up on salt because if Seattle gets Snowmaggedon 2 I'm doomed.
I'm so jealous of your snow! The most we ever get here is an inch and people do not know what to do! It's hysterical as a Yankee in the South to watch people try to drive in 1/2 and inch of snow :)
ReplyDeleteI like the hat! In fact, I want one of my own. As for snow, well, we got so much last year that I think I'm set for life in the snow department. Unfortunately, I don't think Chicago will be having a mild, snow-less winter. I just hope it holds off until after Thanksgiving, which might be wishful thinking.
ReplyDeleteCute hat! I live in the south, so an inch of snow would grind the entire area to a COMPLETE halt. Also, I've found I don't like snow as much as I did when I was a kid. It's so... wet. And cold.
ReplyDeleteI guess we both picked the right place to live! lol
i'm always so excited for the FIRST snow storm of winter!! ...the 8th? not so much.
ReplyDeleteYou look so cute in your hat! I hope you get all the snow you wish for!
ReplyDeleteOh it's coming girl! Yippee! I actually really love it too. And don't count Montana out for gear just yet - I know our little guy is small, but he has a waterproof coat for when the big wet flakes fall down and a lot of people get booties for their dogs too because as much as they love romping around in it, the snow can clump up and freeze in their paws.
ReplyDeleteYou are so prepared! I love snow too even though I find it scary to drive in.
ReplyDeleteOh, the enthusiasm of a Denver newbie...hee hee. I like the snow, too - there's something exciting about the first snowfall. However, my work (and most places in Denver) NEVER closes (in the 7 years I've been here, we've only closed twice), so snow usually just ends up being a pain in the ass.
ReplyDeleteJealous!! I would LOVE to live where there's snow! Well, for a few days anyway. Then I would probably just be annoyed. But, for the few days where the novelty of a warm fire, DVDs and hot chocolate hadn't worn off, I would love it!
ReplyDeleteLove the hat. I do not own a hat, but for the first year ever as an adult, I WANT one. I have that type of earmuffs - Love them, but they can slip sometimes.
ReplyDeleteOh - and our dog has a little fleece coat. :-)
ReplyDeleteI am not a huge fan of snow but if I didnt have to go anywhere in it like you all, I would be all for it. The hils here are what makes it so bad.
ReplyDeleteMontana is adorable in that video. Sandy things when it snows its like her own personal snowcone. She also loves to slide in it.
Super cute video! I love the way she sticks her head in it!
ReplyDeleteIt's a toque! And I love it :)
ReplyDeleteThe hat is adorable. :)
ReplyDeleteBut, I have to say, I HATE it when people talk like that around here. Snow is no picnic for those of us who HAVE to get out and drive in it. Especially in this part of the country--we don't get deep snow consistently enough that people really know how to drive in it, and nobody has snow tires. Bah humbug. ;)
Off topic: You look fabulous! That photo could totally be your new blogger photograph (okay, maybe lose the hat for versatility's sake).
ReplyDeleteBack on: I love the snow and am several shades of jealous.
Oh, I am so dreading the bad weather this winter. Let it never come!
ReplyDeleteMan, I sure wish we got snow. All we get are crappy ice storms that knock out power and cause a million car accidents.
ReplyDeleteI miss my Cleveland winters full of lake-effect snow.
Also, I'm totally jealous of your awesome hat. You look adorable and ready for teh snows.
I love the snow--although in SLC there have been very few storms that shut the city down. Life just goes on. :o)
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you're excited about the snow! Squee!
xox
She reminds me so much of my dog in the snow!! Love it!!
ReplyDeleteAwww it looks sooo beautiful. I WANNA SEE SNOW. I WANNA SEE SNOW. I WANNA SEE SNOW. Ok, you probably got my point already :D
ReplyDeleteI would probably dieeee b/c it's too cold. Since I've never been anywhere below 50 degrees!
Nice post.Keep up with the good information!
