The first state is the worst state.

I'm back from my weekend in the country with the girls, as I like to refer to it because it makes me feel all adult and also a little bit posh. The weekend was fabulous but I haven't uploaded photos yet so a full recap will have to wait. However, I will go ahead and say, the traffic this weekend? HEINOUS. I still haven't recovered. Specifically, I blame the state of Delaware.

I-95 through Delaware is literally 15 miles from end to end. And yet it took us OVER TWO HOURS to get through the state. And the worst part was that there wasn't a REASON. It wasn't because of construction or an accident or anything. No, it was because as soon as we got out of the first tollbooth, we hit the line for the second tollbooth. THE FIFTEEN MILE LINE. Argh.

I might have been suffering from a tad bit of road rage, is all I'm saying. But at least the company in the car was good, and despite our alleged six-hour drive taking ten hours, causing me to get only six hours of sleep last night, it was a great weekend.

Also, when I got back, the order that I placed in Old Navy's Stuff and Save sale had arrived, so I tried on all my new clothes. I was very excited. But it turned out to be one of the most disappointing orders I have ever placed with that store. I have to say that in general, I heart Old Navy, especially right now while my clothing sizes are in flux and I don't want to spend a lot on clothes. But this order? Not so much.

First of all, I ordered four bathing suits on sale in preparation for our honeymoon (and in my defense, I wasn't planning on KEEPING all four). One of them, the blue and purple one that I was most excited about, was not a bathing suit at all but a weird white t-shirt with something written on it in sparkly pink letters. But the package was LABELED as a bathing suit, so I'm not sure what happened, but it was definitely their fault. Then the second one fit, except that the way the halter top was cut made me look very... promiscuous, and also slightly indecent. The third one was not long enough for my torso, because I am apparently too tall for some bathing suits. And the fourth? Well, despite being the same size that I ALWAYS wear from Old Navy, I couldn't even get it up over my knees.

AND, add to that two dresses, one of which was all baggy around the chest in a way that created an incredibly un-charming side-boob effect, and the other of which fit, but appeared to be made out of terrycloth or some other casual beach cover-up material, despite having been touted as the perfect dress to wear to work. And the pockets on the black pencil skirt gaped a little bit, which wouldn't have been so bad except that they were lined in red satin, so it looked kind of like I had long bloody cuts on both my hips.

Long story short, out of that entire gigantic order, I'm keeping two t-shirts. Old Navy has never failed me like that before. And to be honest, I'm a little bitter about that. But maybe that's just the lack of sleep talking. Or the road rage residue. Or both. We'll have to see how I'm feeling tomorrow.

  2. That's happened to us too before ... sometimes Old Navy sizing is weird and you just have to try it on to get it right. Luckily, they have a good return policy so you should be OK.

(also ... that stretch of Delaware totally sucks. I've been there. I know.)

  3. Hmm.. that is very good to know! I was thinking about ordering swimsuits form their website last night. Good thing I didn't!

  4. After years of being a devoted customer, I am OVER Old Navy. I've been so disappointed by the quality, sizing, and selection of their clothes lately that I am done.

Wow, I had alot of anger about that.

  5. American Eagle once did that to me, by sending me something completely different than what I ordered, but it was labeled as what I ordered. Weird.

I find Old Navy is hit or miss lately too, sizing is weird, and they haven't grasped what boobs are really like, because their tops are all messed up!!

  6. a) I have been in that exact same position with Delaware and it makes me so angry I see spots. Why are we stopped? WHY?

b)I too have been v. disappointed with Old Navy this season in particular- everything is so gappy and bulgy and made of teenybopper materials. I DON'T GET IT.

  7. DE 95 sucks big time. Every time we go through there it's a problem. Yuck.

Old Navy is definitely going through some.... thing. I haven't liked their adult clothes for a couple of seasons now, and even their kid stuff hasn't been as nice as normal. Plus, the quality seems to be going downhill. Bah.

  8. Were you caught up in that traffic from the accident on the bridge over the Chesapeake Bay? That looked horrendous.

And boo to mail orders that don't work out as planned. It's bad enough when you try stuff on in the store dressing room and it doesn't fit properly. But, to wait for days and then not get what you were hoping for? The disappointment is 10-fold.

  9. The Old Navy sizing really confuses me. My size changes from order to order depending on what kind of clothing article I am buying. It's so weird!

  10. a) i say keep the promiscuously inappropriate bathing suit. it's for your honeymoon!!

    b) OH MY GOD MY RAGE FOR 95 THRU DELAWARE KNOWS NO BOUNDS. i drive that stretch A LOT, seeing as how the parents are just north of there in nj, and let me tell you... of the 100+ times i've driven through that state, i'd say i get backed up 80% of the time. HOW. IS. THAT. POSSIBLE.

  12. I recently went into Old Navy for some cheaper work clothes because I need a paycheck before I can go crazy, but found nothing. It was a sad day.

And I would agree with Alice- it's your honeymoon, you SHOULD wear an almost-indecent bathing suit. :-)

  13. Yeah, I know what you mean about that stretch of Delaware. It sucks, and I really wish they'd do something about it. I mean, their state is so damn small, it sucks that they have two tollbooths so close to each other. Very stupid planning.

  14. Man, the sizing at Old Navy is, well, it's FUCKED UP, dude. It's totally inconsistent, even articles in the same style purchased at the same STORE on the same DAY. WHAT?

I'm with Alice on the Slut Suit. KEEPIE.

  15. We got stuck in the SAME traffic on I-95 yesterday. I officially loathe Delaware.

The worst part? the hail storm that started while we were in Jersey was effin' horrible and STILL didn't hold us up like Delaware did. Not even with a downed tree blocking one of two lanes!

  16. Old navy seems very hit or miss to me. But I don't think they generally make clothes for my body type; pants have hardly ever fit right.

I-95 in the summertime just BLOWS, whereever you are, I think. Sorry you had to endure a 15 mile long line, I would have totally been pissed at that too.

  17. I still like Old Navy for jeans but otherwise, as other have said, the rest of the stuff seems to be not so good. I get a lot of my stuff at Target. Cute styles, don't cost an arm and a leg and come in bigger sizes.

  18. Im with the others, wear the revealing one...when else could you?

  19. Glad you had a good time over the weekend!

I had a bad order experience from Old Navy a few months ago. Now I just bite the bullet and go to the store and try things on because sometimes, their sizing is completely random.

  20. worst. that is always so disappointing.

  21. ugh. what do you call people from delaware? Delawarians? hm.

  22. Is it wrong that I kind of want you to keep the scandalous swimsuit?? It is for your honeymoon, after all ;)

  23. I have four Old Navy Perfect Tees that I wear pretty much every day. So when they started getting worn-out and stretched-looking, I ordered 4 more---and they don't fit at all. Same size, same t-shirt, and the new ones are painted onto my body and made of a material about 1/2 the thickness of the shirts I have.

Also, their customer service sucks so bad, it's like they're going for a Suckage Award. Which we should totally invent and give out.

  24. I have to agree with you about Delware!

  25. Old Navy is weird with their sizes... so is forever 21. I always order stuff online from them and it's so hit or miss.

  26. Oh no! Sorry about ON letting you down. :(

  27. Bummer. Last time we were there I just could NOT figure out my shirt size so I gave up. I'm also having a similar problem with a bra I ordered and returned and ordered again and will now be returning AGAIN. ARGH!
