So Pia left yesterday morning, which was far, far too soon, but we had a great time doing all three things that we had planned. The weather forecast had called for rain pretty much nonstop throughout her whole visit, and I was all pissed about it, but luckily it turned out to be totally wrong, and Saturday was gorgeous and warm and breezy and completely springlike.
We took advantage of the good weather on Saturday to go see the cherry blossoms, which were in full, gorgeous bloom. Unfortunately, we were not the only people in DC who had that brilliant idea. It took us at least ten minutes just to get out of the Metro station because there was such a bottleneck. In the two years I've lived in DC, I have never seen a train or station that crowded.
But it was totally worth it once we were herded over to the pretty trees along with the rest of the city and about 8 million tourists. The blossoms were as gorgeous as promised, although there were people doing stupid things like dangling from branches and totally abusing the trees, which was depressing to see. But Torsten had a great time taking pictures with his dad's new DSLR camera that is on loan to us until we see his parents next week. You can see the whole set of photos here.
Pia and I also went to the mall in search of a bridesmaid dress, and although we didn't find one, looking at them helped both of us get some ideas, and I think Pia will be able to find a nice dress on her own, even if I don't see her again until the wedding (although I certainly hope I do). But I did get a couple of other things, which made me really happy--delicious pomegranate scented bubble bath and a pretty white eyelet skirt.
I don't know what it is about clothes shopping, especially when it comes to bright colors and lightweight skirts, but the shopping felt so springlike. And now I have a gorgeous spring skirt that goes perfectly with my black and white dotted peep-toe wedges just sitting in my closet, waiting for another spring day. It makes me simultaneously happy and antsy for consistent spring weather. Does that happen to any of you? Do you have a favorite spring outfit waiting in your closet? What is it like?

I love love love Spring. I bet those pictures don't even do the beauty of the day justice! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited to get back into t-shirts and skirts. Bring on the spring weather- enough of this 40 degrees!
ReplyDeletei have about six new dresses that i'm dying to wear! i was thinking i would be able to maybe this week, but no, minnesota is getting more snow/rain four out of seven days this week. can it be spring already?
ReplyDeleteOh god yes! The second that first spring J.Crew catalog arrives, I am insanely excited for spring. And I live in Texas where it doesn't even get that cold.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had fun!! The pics are great.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a favorite spring outfit at this point. THe only thing I'm giddy to wear are my flip flops. I can't stand socks...
Beautiful!! It was so nice this weekend here too! GOD I LOVE THE SPRING!
ReplyDeleteIt was the first weekend of Spring here and I LOVED it! No cherry blossoms yet, but hopefully soon.
ReplyDeleteAs for Spring outfit..I need to go shopping deserately!
i have SUCH A weak spot for eyelet anything. i crave your eyelet skirt without ever having laid eyes on it :-)
ReplyDeleteOh man, I have all these really light spring running jackets that I wear always, not just running. I feel so cool in them. My winter coat is not cool. My spring jackets are way cool. I can't wait to break them out.
ReplyDeleteThere is something about a spring skirt that puts a spring in your step. I love it. I can't wait until I can break out the flip flops!
ReplyDeleteI was over on the other side of the mall taking pics on Saturday. i was so happy it didn't rain. The cherry blossoms are beautiful.
Those blossoms are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteWe are still struggling to decide if it is spring here in NYC. I just wish Spring would last longer - before you know it, it is hot as all hell.
I have a green skirt that I am just waiting to break out of my closet. :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great weekend!
cheeerrryyy blossoms! they always make me happy because they indicate spring is HERE! Just wish it wasn't so friggin cold outside.
ReplyDeleteI just bought a really cute beach cover up at Target that I can't wait to wear. It's whit with tiny silver stripes. Granted, it's not an outfit, but it's warm weather apparel I'm dying to put to use.
ReplyDeleteAlso, about 49 pairs of open toed shoes :)
We had a beautiful spring day on Saturday, too. And then this morning it snowed again. Damn Minnesota. :-(
ReplyDeleteCherry blossoms! Ohmigod, I needed to see that because it is @#@%@ing SNOWING again this morning.
ReplyDeleteFunny you should mention the spring outfit, because I was going to wear it this morning until the aforementioned @#@@&^%ing SNOW.
It's a black and white, flowy halter top that is long and feminine, which I wear with jeans and my awesome red shoes and red necklace.
And now the weather HAS RUINED EVERYTHING and I'm wearing a @$#%^$^ing sweater. And shoes with socks.
Am not happy.
Cherry blossoms ooze spring. And anything with pomegranate has to be good. Sounds like a great weekend with your pal and fiance!
ReplyDeleteSpringtime outfits? None I can think of. Though, I do love open-toed shoes! Can't wait to start wearing them!
Beautiful! I can't wait for the warmer weather!
ReplyDeleteI am very excited about spring- being cooped up in the suburbs with two little kids for about the last SIX MONTHS has made me a wee bit antsy!
ReplyDeleteI don't really have a lot of spring outfits I love. Although I do love wearing skirts in general, especially denim. I hate shorts (oh the chafing!) so I basically live in short khaki or jean skirts most of the summer. For capris and shirts and stuff, I need to go shopping. I'm afraid I have more summer maternity clothes than regular at this point.
gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI don't really have a favorite outfit exactly, but I do really enjoy those first days of only wearing one or two layers instead of four or five. :)
ReplyDeleteI am an incredible skirt junkie. When spring hits, I get into crazy mode and I just continuously buy skirts. I think I might have a problem... ;)
ReplyDeleteLove the cherry blossom pictures! I have several dresses and skirts waiting for spring in my closet. Unfortunately I bike everywhere and rarely wear them...
ReplyDeleteI have always wanted to see the cherry blossoms in the spring!
ReplyDeleteLucky!
I wish I could see the Cherry Blossoms one year. It makes me sad to see people abuse nature too.
ReplyDeleteAh, spring shopping! I love a new skirt, but usually chose one I can wear with many tops to make many outfits. Last year's purchase was a nice denim skirt that I wore (literally) 2-3 times a week for the next 4 months. I swear I lived in it!
That picture of you and Torsten is SO GREAT!
ReplyDeleteI have some great SHOES that I want to wear but I'm going to have to get some kind of Toenail Care going first. Yikes. (um, TMI)(still, TRUE)
I try not to think about Spring too much. I have my doubts it'll ever get here. HOWEVER, I have a brand new pair of flip flops I got on sale last fall, plus several other pairs of spring/summer shoes that I cannot wait to wear!
ReplyDeleteAlso, you and Torsten are so cute! (And Mr. J. wants to know where he got his stripey sweater. :) )
I love your cherry blossom photos! I adore that point in the early spring when the cherry blossoms are at their peak.
ReplyDeleteAlso, your clear blue sky + short sleeves + sun glasses + gorgeous curls is making me long for a decent stretch of spring weather in this Washington! Until then I'm living vicariously through your flickr set. ;)
Gorgeous photos!! I still have yet to get down there to see them. Must do that soon!
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a good weekend xoxo!
I can't wait to start wearing shorts, capris, tank tops, skirts, etc. I love the spring!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I have a favorite spring outfit, but I love those pictures of the cherry blossoms.
ReplyDeleteThose are so gorgeous! Admittedly, I'm completely jealous of the springiness of your weekend.
ReplyDeletexox
I just splurged on some peep-toe wedges that are ACHING for a spring-like day! Soon, soon!
ReplyDeleteGlad you had such a lovely weekend with your pal.
I love Spring! I was going to walk down and see the cherry blossoms but I think I'll wait until a little later when it has calmed down in the area. I get freaked out with tons of folks.
ReplyDeletei'm actually wearing one of my favorite (work) spring outfits today :)
ReplyDeletewhite and brown flowy print skirt and dressy brown shirt. LOVE
I saw the cherry blossoms on TV this weekend and thought of you. How beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you had a nice weekend!
My comment was going to be almost verbatim what Saly said. Only I was going to add that I am miffed that I've missed the cherry blossoms every time I've been to DC. And will again this year!
ReplyDeleteOooh, those cherry blossoms are gorgeous! I am weird - I actually dread the changing season. This is because my weight fluctuates and I have no idea if any of my clothes will fit since it's been so long since I wore the springy ones. ARgh. Man, that is pathetic to admit. Also, for some reason, my feet look weird in peep-toe shoes.
ReplyDeleteThose trees...gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI do actually but I'm itching to buy an new skirt, tank and wedges. LOVE wedges!
Happy spring!
I have a dressy spring outfit that i'm DYING to wear... but I may get to wear it this weekend if it's nice. I hope so!
ReplyDeleteI love the image of cherry blossoms against a blue sky-- so pretty!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to wear knee length skirts again!
I LOVE Spring and I am SOOOO happy that the weather is getting nicer!
ReplyDeleteI just can't wait to pull out my cropped pants and flip flops, that will make me sooo happy!
Flip flops are my world! :)
Those flowers look so, so pretty and springy! I wish we could've come to visit this weekend.
ReplyDeleteI have a myriad of dresses hanging in my closet, calling my name. And some cute shoes begging to be let out from hibernation under my bed.
Lovely, lovely photos. What a photogenic bunch! (Your hair looks great!)
ReplyDeleteI get that same spring clothes feeling. Unfortunately, Portland doesn't get consistently nice weather until July. JULY! I mean, it snowed and hailed just last week in parts of the city...sheesh...
But, when it does get here, I have an adorable outfit of little khaki capris, a sort of animal printed silk top (from jcrew, thanks Mom!) and a coral sweater that I think will look killer with some black wedges. I can't WAIT to bust that puppy out...
Until then, it's still water proof top layers and boring sweaters & slacks for me. I hope you get more good weather!
i have multiple outfits just waiting for the perfect occasion to bust out of their shells. it's tough because my work is pretty casz, so i'd feel odd wearing some sophisticated blouse, even though i know it looks awesome!
ReplyDeleteAwww. I miss Dc and the cherry blossoms. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that there will still be a few around when I come to DC on the 22nd (yay for work travel!!!).
ReplyDeleteHoly smokes! Look at all those people! That's more people than Boise has as a total population I think!
ReplyDeleteThe cherry blossoms look SO purty! And so do you and your pal and Torsten. Love it!
