I know I was going to keep growing my hair out until the wedding, but after almost a year, I just couldn't take it anymore. My hair is so thick and curly that when it's long it starts to lose its shape, and it also weighs itself down and doesn't curl as much. And there's just so MUCH of it that it starts to take me over. Plus it takes forever to wash and clogs the tub drain all the time and gets caught in things. So yesterday I finally gave in and chopped off four inches.

After, yesterday (when straightened by the stylist):
After, today (curly again after a shower):
I like my hair better short, curly, and loose. And that's how I'm going to wear it in my wedding. I don't want a fancy updo--I want to look like myself. And to be honest, I've known that for ages. So, the hair went. And I feel great.

I wanted to have my hair down for my wedding, too, but the heat made that a no-go. I think I looked like a dressed-up version of myself, which is not the normal version, but it was okay for the situation. Way to stick to your gut!
ReplyDeleteGah! I heart your curly hair! It looks great short.
ReplyDeletei love your hair.
ReplyDeletecan i have it?
kthanx
and good for you!
*seethes with jealousy* I wish I could wear my curly hair short but I've still got PTSD from when I cut it short in the 5th grade. Bad, bad memories.
ReplyDeleteyou look great!
ReplyDeletei've always been confused by brides growing out their hair to put into styles they wouldn't normally wear. as a short-haired girl, i just can't wrap my mind around this.
i think it's best to go with what looks good and what makes you feel like your prettiest. good choice!
I love the cut. It looked great before, but it looks great now too!
ReplyDeleteHoly moly does your hair ever look gorgeous! I love the cut curly AND straight!
ReplyDeleteI've got a couple of pictures in my head of things you could do with your hair curly for the wedding...I'm sure it'll look awesome.
Damn, woman. You have a lot of hair!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great both ways, and you look like a totally different person when it's straight. It can be like an alter ego!
It looks great!! I'm growing my bangs out, but not by choice, only because I don't have time to get a haircut.
ReplyDeleteI would kill for your hair. I think Each and I will have to fight each other. :)
ReplyDeleteI love it!! So cute!
ReplyDeleteit looks awesome - those curls, my god. they are gorgeous my friend.
ReplyDeleteI love it short. And also, you look fantastic! You may have inspired me to go back on the Weight Watchers band wagon. Maybe.
ReplyDeleteo.O I love it!!! I've always wanted curls like that...i'm so jealous :(
ReplyDeletemy sister got the thick, curly hair. I got the thin, straight/slightly wavy hair. Hate hate hate.
Looks great!
ReplyDeleteso cute! i got my hair cut and colored this weekend too, i may post pictures later in the week.
ReplyDeleteI just love, love, love your hair short! You look SO DIFFERENT with straight hair. Good, but different. I don't think you should ever straighten those AWESOME, shiny curls. They are too fantastic.
ReplyDeleteI love it! I love the curly. Why do you curly-haired girls EVER straighten your hair??? I often sit behind a curly-haired girl at church and I never pay attention on those days because I spend the entire time coveting her hair. SUPER CUTE.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! It's amazing, though...In the picture where it is straightened, you look like a different person. If you ever need a disguise... :)
ReplyDeleteI definately agree to just being yourself for the wedding. The shorter hair looks amazing! and the straight version is awesome too! although I'm guessing that takes awhile???
ReplyDeleteyay for haircuts! I need to decide what to do with mine.
Cute! I am jealous of your curls.
ReplyDeleteI can't tell you how much money I've wasted on perms, in the futile hope that they will make my hair look like your hair.
ReplyDeleteI've seen your hair in several lengths now, and my favorite is the way you have it right now.
i love your hair! it looks great.
ReplyDeleteOh wow! I can't decide which I like better - straight or curly - it looks so cute either way!
ReplyDeleteVery cute and curly! You should definitely be your most comfortable self on your wedding day!
ReplyDeleteIt looks fantastic - and you look like a totally different person when it's straightened. Beautiful both ways, Jess :)
ReplyDeletemy GOSH you look so different with your hair straightened! i love the curl on you, though. delish.
ReplyDeleteI'm amazed at how shiny and smooth your hair looks when it's straightened! But still it's just a bit generic - not as distinctive as your curls.
ReplyDeleteOh, it looks stunning! In the first picture I thought, "wow, it's already pretty short" but then I saw the second picture and said "oh! that looks even better!"
ReplyDeleteI have curly hair, and I wish mine was as shiny as yours. Jealous!
It's amazing how different curly and straight hair look. You're brave!
ReplyDeleteOoooh, look how bouncy and gorgeous? I am so totally envious of your curls, I can spend 3 hours with a curling iron and still only end up with loose waves. LOVE the curly-locks look!

I think it looks great short- your curls are amazing! I had a similar conversation with my hair stylist ... I told her I may grow out my bangs so they're long enough to sweep to the side. But, other than that, I'm not giving up a whole year just to have hair long enough to pull up. We'll figure something else out! You made a great decision!
ReplyDeleteMan, your curls are absurdly shiny. I'm jealous :)
ReplyDeleteYou look great with the short hair! And those curls...OMG!
ReplyDeleteLovely, lovely, lovely! I'm joining the masses in saying that I'm jealous of hair that's described as 'thick'. The amount of money I've spent on products promising volume would have bought me a house.
ReplyDeleteAnd a car.
You look great!
i love your curls, you look adorable with your new haircut. so fresh and neat.
ReplyDeleteNice haircut!
ReplyDeleteNew cut is SO CUTE. So cute. Looks cute straight and curly, which is the mark of a good cut in my book.
ReplyDeleteI have naturally curly hair too...NEVER EVER straighten it everyday, I did that and now I have ruined my curls.
ReplyDeleteLooking like yourself I think is the best way to go on your wedding day, you will be more comfortable, right? I don't understand these people that try to get all snazzed up and look like someone else.
If I ever get married I'll also grow my hair. I don't want my hair to be in a fancy style either. I want my hair to be lose and curly. I wanna look like a girl.
ReplyDeleteHoly crap, you look like a different person with straight hair! I love it both ways. The short hair is really cute.
ReplyDeleteI also got my haircut this weekend and my stylist did the opposite - I have straight hair and she curled it before I left. :)
A.) I think you win the prize for awesomest naturally curly hair EVER
ReplyDeleteB.) Shorter is definitely cuter, it's got much more shape.
and C.) I like your natural curls better than the stylist-straightened version. You definitely rock the spirals! :)
Awww! I love the shorter curlies! So pretty =)
ReplyDeleteCuuuuute!!! I love the cut. And you are adorable too, as well. :)
ReplyDeletepS, excuse the repition of "too, as well." SOMEONE may or may not have had three glasses of wine this afternoon.
ReplyDeleteCurly hair is the best... even though at times it can be a total pain in the butt.
ReplyDeleteI love the shorter length. It's perfect for your face shape!
ReplyDeleteumm for serious? I'm so jealous of your curls. I have curly hair, but mine is insanely all over the place.
ReplyDeleteYou look freakin' FABULOUS! Great choice!
ReplyDeleteIt looks so bouncy and vibrant! My hair does nothing but hang there...
ReplyDeleteIf I had gorgeous curls like that, I'd flaunt them, too! Go curly girl!
ReplyDeleteCute! It always amuses me that my friends with curly hair have straight hair only on days when they visit the stylist. Conversely, my hair has body and a bit of lift only on days when I visit the stylist. It cracks me up when curly-haired girls ask me, "How do you get your hair so straight??" Um, it just DOES this. It's my only option, really.
ReplyDeletehooooly smokes I would kill for such perfect curls! i have curls but not nearly as nice as yours. do you use product? maybe i should cut mine...
ReplyDeletejealous.
Your hair is gorgeous! As the owner of very straight hair, I am very jealous of your beautiful curls.
