Dinner cruise recap

It's been two days since we went on that dinner cruise for our anniversary, but with the anniversary post and this week's Tuesday Retrospective, I realize that I haven't actually written about it yet. Not that I intend to write a long post about it--it was a pretty standard cruise, really, or at least that's what I think from my vantage point of only ever having been on the one. The food was fine but not great, which was to be expected for a cruise ship that has no kitchen so has all of its food prepared ahead of time a la an international flight. There was a live band that was actually pretty decent, and a dance floor. The views of DC were gorgeous and the weather was perfect. The ambiance was charming and romantic and they had put rose petals on our table because I checked off that it was our anniversary when I made the online reservation.

The one thing that pissed me off was that our server asked us, all friendly-like, what our names were and how many years we had been together, as though she was just being nice, and then later the band announced us and called us up to the dance floor, which neither of us really appreciated. Also, they pronounced Torsten "Trah-sten." It's Torsten. TORE-stin. At least, in the US it is. In Germany it's slightly different but I'm not about to attempt a German accent every time I say my fiancé's name.

Anyway, it was a great time. And to answer the question that people (myself included) had after this post, Torsten got me a gorgeous amethyst necklace (you can see it in some of the pictures below). I got him a digital picture frame. Amazingly, given the vague (and fluctuating) price limit that we set for the gifts, there was only a $1.31 difference between the cost of each other's gifts. Are we psychically connected or what?

Anyway, the real point of this post is the photos. The full set is here (and you can see by the abundance of photos of me that Torsten had the camera for most of the night. Isn't he cute? I know, it's sickening). All of the below photos are by Torsten except the first.

  1. You look great - especially with that necklace. T. has great taste.

Oh, A. would just curl up and die if he was called out onto a dance floor. I feel your pain!

  5. I am looking in to go going on my first cruise for my honeymoon. It's the first I will have been on. At least that isn't of the "three hour tour" variety.:)

  6. Beautiful necklace! And the calling you up to dance? Oh no! That kind of thing gives me nightmares. I would have immediately jumped overboard. THAT would teach 'em. :)

  8. Very pretty necklace.

The dinner cruise sounds like fun. Eh, I'm not big on having attention called to myself, either...But where better than on a boat full of strangers! :)

And, getting called up to dance would seriously piss me off, but how can you get pissed on such a lovely anniversary night!
