First things first, for those of you who didn't catch this on Twitter, Montana was absolutely fine with her tooth cleaning yesterday. She woke up easily and came home a little subdued and groggy but still seemingly feeling good. And Torsten and I cannot BELIEVE how white her teeth are. Seriously, see the before and after pictures on this site? That is EXACTLY what happened with her. Now we are fully committed to brushing them regularly so that we don't have to have this done again anytime soon.
Anyway, so that's the dog update. In other news, I checked out Meetup yesterday to see if there are some cool area groups. Is it bad that I'm a little scared of groups of people who all have one thing in common? Like dog owners. Some dog owners I adore but others I cannot STAND. So a dog-friendly happy hour? I just don't know.
Or, OK, what about a cribbage meetup? I love cribbage and Torsten doesn't really like games, so it seems like the perfect thing for me. But a group of people about whom I know nothing except that they like cribbage? Is it going to be like some sort of strange Dungeons and Dragons meetup only with playing cards?
Also, I found a group for German expats in Denver and asked Torsten if he'd be interested in joining. And his response, literally, was, "God no!" He went on to elaborate, "Why would I want to meet up with a bunch of Germans?!" His parents would weep to hear him express such a sentiment, but not me. I'm more like, MY WORK HERE IS DONE.
Lastly, I had my second fill yesterday, and I think I'm going to feel some restriction this time, which I'm very much looking forward to. But at the moment I am grumpily back on the liquid puree diet for two days. TWO DAYS suddenly feels like forever. Looking back, I have NO IDEA how I made it three whole weeks without eating solid food. Seriously, I was a liquid diet ROCK STAR. Crying fits and all.

This recipe sounded delicious to me when I came across it, and it turned
out that it was. Also, I've reached the point with cooking where I can make

"MY WORK HERE IS DONE." LOL - that is hilarious.
ReplyDeleteWould you say the same thing about meeting bloggers - a group of people whom all you have in common is blogging? What I'm saying is, all it takes is one thing in common to learn you might have a lot more in common. You're not expected to like everyone, but take away a few people you really like and that's the start to some lasting friendships!
ReplyDeleteOh man, I am convinced you are the rock star of the puree diet. I would die.
ReplyDeleteI'd say that you should try one of the meetups. You just never know who you'll find, and if it sucks you can just not go back. No big loss, right?
ReplyDeleteBOO to two more days of liquids... but YAY to continued success!
I've thought about going to meet-ups as well and have the same fears as you. But if you want to go then there must be other people (who have other interests) like you there. That's my logic, at least. :)
ReplyDeleteI have a hard time with Indian socializing groups, too. One night and I'm exhausted (also everyone usually pegs me as the weird one). Also I learned the hard way in law school how political they are, so I'm determined to focus on a more ethnicity neutral club in b-school.
ReplyDeleteYeah I've thought of doing a meetup thing for runners in Chicago but then I thought hey, runners are kind of weird. And do I have any other hobbies? Not really. It might be fun, but I understand your skepticism.
ReplyDeleteGlad Montana's surgery went well.
ReplyDeleteI love Cribbage, too, but meeting people I don't know for the sole purpose of playing Cribbage? Meh. Maybe for Scrabble.
Hubby wasn't much of a game player when we met, but I converted him. :-) We actually played a couple games of Pickup Sticks (just the two of us) after our son went to bed the other night. Heh.
I've been in a mom's meetup group for over 3 years now and I'm not sure how I would function without it!
ReplyDeleteAlthough the only thing we ALL have in common is that we happen to have kids, there are always people you click with more than others.
I'd try the cribbage group, only because I'm tired of losing to Jason and maybe I'd have a shot at beating someone else. :)
ReplyDeleteYou can always come visit me in MN - hint, hint.
LOL my work here is done.
ReplyDeleteWhat is cribbage group? I dont even know what cribbage is. I'm so foreign, I'm sorry.
A year or more ago, I joined a MeetUp for hikers, a MeetUp for board games in the very next town over, and 3 MeetUps for Indians in this area (one for Bollywood Movies, tohers for pretty much Indians in Baltimore/DC/VA area). Have I gone to any? Nope. I
ReplyDelete'd like friends who like board games, hiking and watching Bollywood movies. I am not sure I'm ready to meet a bunch of people with only one thing in common.
Why doesn't Torsten want to meet up with other Germans? Does he not feel a big connection to Germany?
ReplyDeleteAll of those groups sound fun! I bet like with any group, there will people you really click with, and people you really don't ;)
A.'s stepdad and BIL tried to teach me cribbage. I am going to just have to play and lose for a long time before I get it.
ReplyDeleteI say go to the cribbage thing! After all, Shauna and Jason play cribbage! I bet there would be some really cool, interesting folks there.
i don't know... i mean, i meet up with bloggers all the time, and it's not like they're all creepy internet people who live in their parents' basements and ONLY BLOG, you know? it just means you already have 1 thing in common, so maybe you'll have more. and plus it's a built in activity, which is ALWAYS helpful for random meet ups (that's why i like my dates to include activities...!!)
ReplyDeleteI belong to a few meetup groups, one for vegans, raw foodists and a mom group. I was super nervous at first also but all the people in the groups are awesome and we don't just sit around talking about veganism, raw foods and our kids. Go! Have fun and if you hate it you'll never have to go back.
ReplyDeleteHa! I totally get it. You could end up meeting some really cool people with whom you can do fun things that you both enjoy, but it could also end up being a massive fail. It usually ends up being the latter.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the liquid diet! I would be a raging bitch.
I have a meet up group every night! My butt and the couch... Torsten cracked me up, love it!
ReplyDeleteDenver dog owners are fairly chill for the most part, so I wouldn't worry too much. You can always try going to a group and if you don't like it, no biggie!
ReplyDeleteI think you just have to remember that those people are just like you--they like cribbage, but it is not ALL they like. Hence, you will like some of them and not others, but that's OK.
ReplyDeleteI'm terrified of any of those group things, too, though. I don't like meeting new people! (I'm only partially kidding. I suck at networking and such.)
I always say that I moved to the US not to meet Germans. I have plenty of those at home.
ReplyDeleteNot to divorce myself from my family and culture.
But if I grew up in German culture, I don't miss it much, I get to go home once per year, I will raise my children bilingual and so on and so forth.
I have a few German friends in Boston, but a lot more German friends in Germany...
The paragraph about Torsten meeting Germans was perfect. It's been quite satisfying seeing my husband embrace local Canadian culture the way he has and he seems pretty content not to look back. :)
