Skincare regimens

Well, apparently it's beauty week over here, because I have another question for you.

If there's one thing I've gleaned from the nine million wedding magazines I've read over the past year, it's the necessity of taking care of your face. I've always been lucky when it comes to skin--mine is sensitive and can be dry or red in patches, but I've never really had problems with breakouts. I totally abused this by pretty much never washing my face or removing my makeup before bed. In fact, every now and then when I was overcome with a fit of desire to wash my face regularly, I would break out MORE as a result.

But clearly the wedding industry is getting to me, because a month or two ago I decided that I really had to start taking better care of my face. I selected Aveeno's Ultra-Calming line, which is non-comedogenic and designed for sensitive skin like mine. I picked up the foaming cleanser and the daily moisturizer with SPF, and I bought the undereye cream from the Positively Radiant line, which is also non-comedogenic. I started washing and moisturizing my face twice a day.

And then I started paying more attention to skincare options, and decided that I really need a night cream. And I went to the drugstore to buy one, but they didn't have the Aveeno kind, and instead of looking elsewhere, I just bought what they did have, Oil of Olay, which was not guaranteed to be non-comedogenic. I used it for a couple weeks and then, shocker, I broke out. Two zits on my chin, one on each side like devil horns. I'm sure nobody else noticed, but I did and it pissed me off. So I stopped using the night cream and did more research.

But it's so overwhelming. It seems like a five-part thing: soap, exfoliant, toner, moisturizer, and... damn, I don't remember the fifth. But it seems like such a PROCESS. I'm not sure I'm really cut out for such a complex, multi-step procedure. I can totally maintain it until the wedding, but I'm not sure my motivation will stay up to par after that, and also I really don't know what I'm doing and what effect it's having on my skin.

So this is what I want to know from you: What kind of skin do you have? And how do you take care of it? Do you have a whole routine? Do you even wash regularly? Somewhere in between? I want details, please!

  1. I have combination skin. I use Clinque, although I like Mary Kay better ... but I haven't found a MK lady around here yet.

I wash, take off eyemakeup and moisturize. Once a week I use an exfoliant mask because I can get REALLY flaky.

  2. Super sensitive and fair, and I do pretty much nothing to it but tinted moisturizer with SPF and really only for the SPF and not the moisture. To clean my face, I honestly just splash my face with water but thats really because I don't wear makeup. If I am wearing makeup, I use Cetaphil to remove.

  3. That's so strange - I've been using Oil of Olay since I was like twelve years old. It was the only thing that never irritated my skin.

Remember that fancy line of skin care stuff that that scary woman at Sephora tried to sell us? Yah, I bought it. And I have to say? I really do notice a difference in my skin. And I had better, for frickin $95. :)

(Ooh, also, I got your note in the mail yesterday! Tee! Yay! xoxox)

  4. I have combination skin I guess and I'm pretty fair.

I use Clinque and it is awesome. I only use the soap and the scrub on a regular basis, but the cleanser is really good too.

I'm also really lazy about that kind of stuff so when I say I "use it" I mean like twice a week.

  5. I have pretty easy skin - not too dry, not too break-outy.

I wash it every morning and every night with the Target knock off Cetaphil facewash (Because it's so cheap and huge!) and I use Dove SPF lotion in the morning. In the evening, I use cold cream to take my makeup off after I wash my face and then use some kind of night lotion that was on sale at Target and has no SPF (because Amalah said you shouldn't use SPF lotion at night and I do everything she says).

In high school and college, I only washed my face in the morning, in the shower, just before I put on NEW makeup, and that makeup wearing to bed never seemed to hurt me, but now I can't imagine sleeping in my makeup. Makes me kind of cringe, actually.

  6. I have normal skin - not too dry, oily or sensitive. Night: remove makeup with the Sephora brand blue stuff [it's THE BEST], then I moisturize with Pond's [with the light blue cap]. Day: Wash and moisturize with the same products.

I need to find a moisturizer with SPF, but I'm afraid of switching!

  7. Hi there! I keep seeing you commenting on bunches of blogs I read, so I started reading you a few days back too! Nice to meet you!

My best advice for you is not to fall for all the stuff that they sell. Start with the basic steps (cleanse, tone and moisturize) and then if your skin needs something more, go ahead and use it.

Exfoliate once a week. You really don't need to do it more than that, and with sensitive skin you are likely just hurting yourself if you do more than that.

Stick with what you know. If the Aveeno is working for you, keep doing that. If you are looking for another line, I would recommend something like Origins or Aveda for you. (FYI, to my knowledge the Olay company still tests on animals, so if that matters to you that's one more reason never to buy it again)

It's easy to think that just because they sell it you need it. Night creams, eye creams, firming lotions, There is so much stuff out there. Just remember the basics are cleanse, tone and moisturize. Focus on finding the right products for your basics for now, and you will probably find that you don't need much more.

Ahhh. I feel like all of that money I spent on Beauty School is finally worth it. ;)

  8. I have combo dry skin and I use philosophy products. I use their purity product to was my face and then hope in the jar with SPF as my moisterizer.

I use Sephora brand eye make up remover as well.

I try to eash every night. But that isbecause I wear make up and like to go to bed clean.

I would go with what you are comfortable with and what has not irritated your skin.

I used oil of Olay for years and then it began to dry my skin out so I tried the philiophy line and have had happy results.

  9. I have been lucky too and have combination skin. I use Philosophy's microdelivery exfoliating wash. Its gentle enough to be used everyday and I love how it makes my skin feel. I use it at night. I follow it up with the philosophy hope in a jar. I also have a bunch of other products from Peter Thomas Roth and Dr. Denese that I use and enjoy like under eye serum.

  10. I read somewhere recently that unless you have oily skin you don't actually need the "tone" part of the steps to facial cleansing. Just FYI. It tends to dry your skin out, I think.

I have pretty "average" skin - not too oily, not too dry, and not terribly sensitive. I often don't wash my makeup off at night (terrible, I know!), but I do wash my face in the shower almost every morning with Neutrogena's cleanser with the exfoliating beads...I don't remember what it's called, but it's in a white squeeze bottle. And I use the moisturizer in the same line - I tried a different one once (by Dove, I think), but it was way too greasy. And I'm too cheap to buy anything expensive when this seems to work.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I think mine is more normal to sometimes oily skin. I keep Neutrogena acne fashwash in my shower and usually just wash my face in the morning during my shower. (Yes I'm horrible and usually sleep in half my makeup) I have to say I dont usually breakout. I credit this to birth control. Since taking it- my skin cleared up right away.

Based on alot of things I've heard/read, I'd just stick to a mild cleanser and moisterizer. Oh- and I wear sunscreen everyday as well (to fight off sun damage and early wrinkles).

    ReplyDelete
  12. I have combo skin (oily and normal), so I used Oil of Olay's Deep Cleansing Face Wash every night. I love this stuff because it even washes off waterproof mascara. I use the complete all in one daily moisturizer with SPF 15 morning and night. I exfoliate every morning with St. Ives Apricot Scrub...this stuff is awesome.

This all keeps me pretty much breakout free, until I fall asleep with my make up on.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I have sensitive/dry skin. I use Neutrogena Healthy Skin cleanser, SPF lotion and night cream. I'm sure I should have moved to a wrinkle-reducing formula long ago, but I'm always afraid that something new will give me a rash.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I have combination skin with possibly some rosacea. What is working for me right now is Noxema Continuous Clean Microbead Cleanser with vitamin C and Dove Deep Moisture facial lotion (SPF 15. I'm not good about using it every single day, but at least 4x a week I probably remember. I stay away from toner because it really drys me out and I don't use any special night creams. So far, real break-outs.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Okay, that should say "no real break-outs".

    ReplyDelete
  16. I have normal skin in summer, dry in winter. I usually never get breakouts either, but this last week = HELLO. So I think I need to switch back to my cold weather skin routine, which is Neutrogena's Foaming Face Wash and Oil of Olay moisturizer.

For the summer, I was using Aveeno's Skin Brightening Facial Scrub with no moisturizer and it worked great, but now my face is rebelling. (Having PMS doesn't help matters either.)

    ReplyDelete
  17. Used Clinique for years....then switched to Estee Lauder, which was wonderful , but just a bit tough on the wallet. Now happily using Mary Kay....I KNOOOOW. But it really is that good.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I have oily/combination skin, except in these cold NY winters, then I have dry skin. I wash my face every morning and every night- I break out if I don't. I use Clinique toner and moisturizer after each wash. Yes, it's a routine and sometimes a hassle, but it's worth it to me if I have clear skin.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I didn't break out really until my twenties. Way to piss me off, skin! I tend to have minor break outs on my chin but mostly I have normal skin. I wash my face in the morning and at night and moisturize both times. I also use acne treatment on spots. And I am all about the under eye lotions. Being 35 is rough on the ol' skin.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I am awful with my face. If I wash before bed, sometimes it's just with water. (Eeek!) But I swear by that one you can get in the mail each month, that I am TOTALLY blanking on the name of. There are seriously ads in every magazine and I cant remember the name haha. Shows how much I use it!

    ReplyDelete
  21. I am So! Glad! you asked this question. Because I have been wanting to ask it for a while as I feel like NOW is the time in my life to start to make sure I "age gracefully" as you so well put it.

I have been thinking really hard about Mary Kay. A couple of people said good things. I want to give it a whirl, I think. Because now? I do nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I swear by Aveeno, it makes my skin glow. Lately I've been using Noxema pads too at night to get rid of the extra oil.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I have extremely sensitive oil prone skin. I wash with Cetaphil and use dermatologist prescribed Azelex (for very fine miliary acne that looks more like a mild skin rash and can sometimes be misdiagnosed as mild rosacea). And then a mild moisturizer with spf (usually aveeno)

For any once in a blue moon giant zit, I use Neutrogena's On-The-Spot treatment, and that shit works wonders! It really does visibly reduce redness in swelling in hours if used as directed (I sound like I'm selling it).

For any skin problem/questions/concerns, I always tell people, if you have health insurance, GO SEE A DERMATOLOGIST. They're not just for the rich and famous and they will work wonders.

    ReplyDelete
  24. i'm a lot like you. i've been lucky when it comes to skin, really sensitive and dry sometimes, but rarely breaks out. all i do is use a dove gentle exfoliate cleanser for sensitive skin when i take a shower in the morning. that's it. i've tried other things and end up with zits so i figure, if it ain't broke why fix it, right? lol

the only other thing i do is make sure to remove my make up at night. these work like a charm.

    good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I'm very lucky in that I have nice skin. I hardly break out, or get very oily. I really only get pimples when pregnant. Even as a teenager I very rarely had any.

I never wash my face outside of the shower. Ever. And in the shower I only wash it with water.
I don't wear much makeup, but if I am wearing it I go to bed with it on.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I wash my face twice a day at least. In the morning and in the evening (after taking off eye makeup). I use a night cream sometimes and a matting day cream which is great.
My skin would be too dry if I didn't do that (and too oily if I didn't wash it, I have mixed skin).
My products are a local drugstore brand but I love that drugstore's selection.

    ReplyDelete
  27. My skin is a mess. I have oily most of the year, but combination skin in the wintertime. I am currently on the Proactiv regimen, and i can't say that i love it. I used to use Clinique, then Neutrogena (and i think i liked them the best. Cheap, effective and gentle).
If i don't wash my face twice a day with a real cleanser, my skin gets angry at me. I've tried to skip the full routine at night and instead, use a Ponds Cleansing Towelette thingy, but then i see the repercussions a couple of days later. Yay, problem skin!
If you don't have to? I wouldn't even bother getting started with a regimen. It's more trouble than it's worth. Just invest in a decent, light moisturizer with SPF.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I tend toward sensitive too, and I like simple. I use cetaphil to wash, and Eucerin moisturizer with spf 30 in the morning (it's the lightest-feeling, non-SPF-smelling one with a high spf that I can find) and then Eucerin q10 cream in the evening (it's creamy but not too thick, and it's one-step.) I should probably use an eye cream but, um, I never remember.

    ReplyDelete
  29. My skin used to be oily and I have
a lovely case of adult onset cycstic acne. So mostly I take sprinolactone which was a life saver for me. Reduced the oilyness and controls the breakouts. But because acne isn't horrendous enough, I started getting facial dandruff (flakes, esp. in the eyebrows) so I wash once (sometimes twice) a day with ZNP soap, which fixed everything right up. I use a topical acne cream in the morning and a little moisturizer. Voila!

Other than twice a week exfoliation, I don't do any of that extra stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Clinique 3 step is very quick and easy, I have the pump wash and use it in the shower, then use the toner and cream before putting on makeup. I am too lazy to do it twice a day, but I notice a difference if I stop using it altogether. Once a weekish I use a moisturizing exfoliating scrub (clinique) in the shower. My big motivation for doing the skin care thing is that I figure right now I am young so my skin will be pretty good no matter what, but I believe that all this looking after it now might help me age better perhaps.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I have uber-oily skin so I have been battling skin problems for ever. I stepped up my regime too ala the wedding industry. For me I decided that my nearly 30 under eye bags and such were not coming to the wedding. So I have been on the hunt for undereye cream.

But I have always done the 5 step process because of my propensity to break out.

I recommend Keihls. It is a bit pricey - but not entirely high end. I have had great luck with it and it has been around for ever which is a good testament.

    ReplyDelete
  32. You and my best friend both don't have to worry about your skin. Not fair.

I have combo skin, which is a pain in the butt.

I wash in the morning (sometimes at night) with an all-natural tea tree cleanser (can't remember the brand - I'll e-mail if I think about it) and moisturize with Cetaphil lotion at night. During the day I wear this all-natural 30 SPF sunscreen from the Badger brand (hard to find, but Whole Foods usually carries them). A little goes a LONG way.

This has worked for me for years, so I don't mess with it. Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I wash my face with *gasp* regular soap! Sometimes I use St. Eves peach something face scrub and I do notice it is smoother for a day or two. Sometimes I put on a night cream for wrinkles around my eyes, but I usually forget.

It seems like you already were doing what works for you :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. I have normal skin. Wash at night with Oil of Olay face wash and apply Oil of Olay (without SPF) moisturizer. Wash with St. Ives apricot scrub stuff in the shower every morning. Apply Oil of Olay moisturizer (with SPF). That's it! Not hard at all.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I break out a few times a year, but otherwise have relatively normal to dry skin. I wash my face almost religiously every night before bed with the Cetaphil bar for dry skin. I use the Cetaphil daily moisturizer with SPF, but I often workout in the middle of the day and end up using my Aveeno sunscreen as a moisturizer before and after a swim or run.

I've never found that toner does much for me, but I do use a de-puffing eye cream from Neutrogena. Once or twice a week I use the Milk, Honey, and Almond Scrub from Kiehl's, which exfoliates, but leaves my skin feeling soft and moisturized, not stripped.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I sue artistry brand...great products. Right up there with MK and Clinique and MAC but cheaper. THis brand is from Amway Global/Quixtar.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Oh my! Yes, it is quite a process. I wash twice daily. Use a moisturizer with SPF in the morning. And an ungodly expensive cream at night (thanks to my make-up artist). They say NOT to use a cream with SPF at night ... because it prevents your skin from healing and regenerating. That's all I know. Then again, I still have the beginnings of crows feet around my eyes. Yikes!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I'm very dry except for that pesky oily nose. I, too, have always found that when I'm diligent about washing, I break out more. It's weird. So my current regimen is not eco-friendly, but it works well for my skin: neutrogena wipes every night (keep them next to my bed because I'm lazy), all different eye creams (right now it's the freebies from my giant Sephora order), and moisturizer if my skin is feeling dry (haven't used it all summer, but I use Origins Night-A-Mins or A Perfect World, both of which last forever). For my nose I use Biore strips... addictive.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I have horrible skin. Lots of acne scars. I used to take really good care of it, but a month ago I was like, fuck it, and stopped cleansing, moisturizing, using Benzaclin (acne gel), and wearing makeup altogether.

But that doesn't really help you. :)

    ReplyDelete
  40. I only use a facewash in the shower, and moisturizer when I get out if it's feeling dry. I get a zit or two every now and then. Clearly I'm no help. :D

    ReplyDelete
  41. i just scrub my face with st ives apricot exfoliation scrub while i'm in the shower.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I have sensitive and fair skin. I've found that Mary Kay treats me the best. I read somewhere (can't tell you when or where) that it's not necessary to wash your face in the morning. You can wash it at night to get off all the daily grime. I absolutely LOVE Mary Kay's day and night solutions. They are reasonably priced and last forever.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I don't wear "face makeup" like foundation or powder, just eye makeup. I use Prescriptives eye makeup remove and just wash my face with water at night. I wear the Olay night cream and have had no problem with it. During the day I wear Olay Sensitive Skin with SPF 15. That's about it!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I wash my face in the shower, and I also wash it at night if I'm wearing a lot of make-up or if I think of it for some reason, but I usually don't. I use Oil of Olay Sensitive (not because my skin is sensitive but because I don't like the smell of hte regular) or Dove Deep Moisturizing, and I use Night of Olay at night IF I washed my face.

I'm neglectful in general, and have great skin. I TEND to think of the big Skin Care Regimes as useful only for people with Serious Problem Skin. Like, Clinique did WONDERS for a roommate of mine who had HORRIBLE skin (seriously, she went from pimply t-zone AND constantly looking like she'd just been slapped to having gorgeous skin)--but when I tried the products, they didn't work as well as the MUCH CHEAPER Oil of Olay and Dove.

    ReplyDelete
  45. the one thing that i think is even more important than the type of face wash you use is your moisturize.

    moisturize, moisturize, moisturize.

i go old school and use oil of olay face lotion - it's fabulous.

    ReplyDelete
  46. If you haven't already, you MUST visit this site: http://www.savvyskin.com/. Its writer isn't really posting anymore, but it has so much good information, and she also has dry skin.

I have oily, very acne-prone skin, and I use Boscia products almost exclusively (Shiseido sunscreen being my biggest exception). I wash my face in the evenings, and rinse with water in the mornings, both times using a facial bruch.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I HIGHLY recommend Aveeno Positively Ageless daily moisturizer. Yes, the name's a little bit cheesy if you don't consider yourself aged (which at 28 I don't). But it's great stuff. It has SPF 30 and lasts a long time, smells good, and isn't runny. I have no idea why I picked it up and bought it in the first place, but I love it.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Lacey, the product I believe you're talking about is Proactive. A friend of mine gave me some samples, and it makes my skin GLOW. I love it for a breakout or when I just want to give me skin a boost - once a week or so.

I have pretty normal skin, and also use Aveeno daily moisturizer, and really like it. I don't moisturize at night except in the winter when my skin gets very dry & tight if I don't.

I wash every night, and exfoliate once a week with St. Ives apricot scrub (as another commenter said, it's too much and bad for your skin to do it more than that).

I am in desperate need of a good anti-wrinkle eye cream. I recently noticed that, GASP, I have crow's feet. Anyone have any suggestions?

    ReplyDelete
  49. I used to use clinique, but after having the boy my skin has been exceptionally breakout prone. I mean so bad! So I've tried everything... and nothing seems to work.
Now I've just gotten some Clarins stuff... we'll see how that goes.
You're very lucky to have such good skin! totally jealous :)

    ReplyDelete
  50. Sounds like you have the same skin as me :) Well, like I used to have! I used to think I needed a night cream, because I had dry skin, with dry patches, then I started using Clinique's 3-Step, and I haven't looked back since. My face doesn't dry out, at all, not even at the end of a day. I've never had a problem with breakouts, so that doesnt come into it. I don't get all blotchy and red face like I used to.

It's totally sweet and reasonabley priced. 3-steps, soooo easy.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I love posts like this. I'm sorry I don't have any great insight, I switch products ALL THE TIME so I don't have a favorite but I've really been enjoying reading what everyone else is using! I think I need to make a trip to the drugstore...

    ReplyDelete
  52. I have sensitive skin, and I don't take care of it at all... Sometimes I wash it with cleanser, other times I just splash water on it... And moisturiser is sort of an optional thing for me... as in, if I'm too lazy then I don't.

All in all today I found a new couple of zits and I'm thinking that it has nothing to do with my lack of a skin care routine. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

    ReplyDelete
  53. BTW, I came over via Princess Pointful's blog; your hickey story was GREAT!

I'm 45, but for years, people have exclaimed that they thought I was much younger (It's genetic; my mom is 79 and has like one wrinkle.) That said, I wash my face and moisturize once per day. No toner, no eye cream, no masks. I'm sure I'm lucky. Oh, but I've recently (last year) started moisturizing my neck. I think elbows and necks can tell a woman's age, even though her face might not.

    ReplyDelete
  54. The best skin care products are Mary Kay. I have tried clinique and Lancome, but nothing compares to Mary Kay!

    ReplyDelete
  55. My skin sounds a lot like yours. I apply Oil of Olay (senstive skin with sun protections) after showers and drink plenty of water. As long as I don't pick at anything, I stay "clean and clear." (I rarely wear makeup, though - but never remember to wash it when I do.)

    ReplyDelete
  56. Oh, and besides drinking lots of water, getting some sort of Omega oils in your diet is great for skin too. Fish Oil or Flax Seed Oil or the like.

    ReplyDelete
  57. My skin is very, very dry. I also went off the birth control pill which caused major breakouts on my chin and cheek. I use Aveeno's premoistened pads to wash my face twice a day. I love them. They are so so so easy. Then, I use Cetaphil moisturizer with sunscreen.

Cleansing and Moisturizing are the most important things to do everyday. Exfoliate once a week. Aveeno is a good brand.

    Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  58. So I may be a little late, as I unexpectedly had no wireless this weekend, and it is nowhere near as wonderful as say, Swistle's speech, but I didn't want to let you know there is some belated love for you on my blog, too :)

    ReplyDelete
  59. Super sensitive. Origins cleanser, Dermologica moisturizers and sunscreen. Wash my face twice day...don't really wear that much makeup.

Now I'm going to troll this treasure chest of comments for advice!!

    ReplyDelete
  60. i have near perfect skin. don't do a thing to keep it this way. some people are just born lucky (=

    ReplyDelete
  61. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
You were doing fine without anything.

    ReplyDelete
  62. i have combination skin. i swear by philosophy products. the purity cleanser is awesome. it cleans and removes all make-up (even mascara/eyeliner) without drying me out. in the winter, i use hope in a jar (the dry sensitive formula) and in the spring and summer, i use neutrogena age shield face spf 70 as my daily moisturizer. my skin was acting all kinds of crazy until i started using the philosophy products.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Delurking because I love the skin talk!! I have crazy combo skin (very oily and very dry) that is sensitive and acne prone. I know - I'm so lucky. I had tried Proactiv and it worked really well, but the downfall was that it bleached everything - towels, sheets, pyjamas, EVERYTHING. Then it also stopped working and the acne got even worse. Now I swear by the Acne Complex line from Murad. I get compliments about how glowing my skin is and it keeps the pimples at bay. If you are thinking about eye creams and stuff Murad also has an anti-aging acne line. Also - I use a mask once a week and swear by Clean & Clear oil absorbing sheets throughout the day :) Happy hunting!

  64. Hello, I saw your blog link on another blog and started blog browsing... I came accross your skin regimen... Here's my comment...1. I have skin like yours...blessing - yes - curse - only in the skin care isle. 2. I have tried everything under the sun and almost all of them kept making me break out - and that was never my problem. I've always had decent, white milky skin - I just needed to keep it clean. So, about 8 months ago I didn't have ANY cleanser, I was over at my aunts and all she had was Oil of Olay bar soap. I used it - and I haven't stopped. The bar soap is amazing. I never thought I would do that because keeping my skin clean has always been an priority for me. But I really like it. Then I just use Jergens regular moisturizer after I wash my face - and walla - fantastic skin.

    ReplyDelete
  65. So I am clearly WAY behind in my blog-reading, but figured I'd share anyway :)

I am also pretty lucky in the skin department and don't break out often. As I've gotten older I've found that my skin has gotten oilier, particularly in the T-Zone area, but on the whole it's generally good to me.

I use Philosophy's Purity face wash, followed by the When Hope is Not Enough anti-aging serum, Hope in a Tube eye & lip cream, and Hope in a Jar moisturizer--which is a little too heavy in the summer, but perfect for Fall & Winter (and a life saver now that I've started swimming again and the chlorine is wreaking havoc on my skin). That's my morning routine. I rarely wash my face at night, unless I did something uber-dramatic with my make-up and don't want to wake up looking like I'd been in a fist fight.

For me, I've discovered that the biggest issue in skin care isn't the face wash, but the make-up. Think about it.. the wash touches your face for a few minutes, but the make-up is there all day! That's why I started using the expensive stuff and my skin definitely thanks me for it. Bare Minerals... it's amazing.

  66. Not sure if somebody else mentioned this, but Aveeno must have a night cream because I have a tiny sample bottle of it in my very bathroom. I've never tried it though. I'm horrible about taking care of my face. boo, me!
