Night and day

This weekend was rainy and humid, which I found disappointing because I am really ready for fall and the accompanying sweaters and crisp weather. On Friday, I wasn't working so I went downtown to have lunch with Torsten. We had sandwiches and shared a Fresca, and while we were sitting outside eating, we discussed the idea of booking a hotel room at the beach for Saturday night, renting a car, and driving out. We did that about two years ago, soon after we started dating, and even though we both found Ocean City to be tacky, it was nice to be out there when it was cool and the beach was empty.

We wound up deciding not to go, figuring we'd rather save the money for our down payment and also relax instead of dealing with the rental car and the long drive and all that. Instead, we stayed home most of the weekend, and I made table name cards and menu cards and escort cards for the wedding, using rubber stamps and a purple ink pad. I was very pleased with myself for that stroke of genius, and I actually really liked the finished look.

We ate Greek food for dinner on Saturday night but cooked the rest of our meals ourselves, which made me feel healthy and accomplished, and also meant that there were enough leftovers for both of us to bring lunch to work today. I took a nap on the couch with my head on Torsten's lap, and sent a few emails I'd been meaning to send for ages, and watched a few episodes of Sex and the City.

It was a lovely, relaxing, lazy weekend that didn't require anything more fancy than jeans. And now that it's over, and I'm feeling well-rested and peaceful, I have been overcome with the desire to go out on the town. I want to wear a fancy dress, and put on way more makeup than I normally wear, and have to take a cab because my shoes are too high to really walk in. I want to go out somewhere fancy, but I also really want to primp. I think my lazy, casual weekend did it to me. Luckily, our anniversary is coming up next week, so I will have a good excuse to do all that.

What about you? Do you ever get something lovely that was just what you needed, only to then contrarily decide that next time, you want the exact opposite?

  1. I had a similarly lazy weekend.

And it only left me craving more! :)

(Although I did get quite dressed up for work today, maybe as a result of my sweatpants and jeans this weekend??)

  5. It sounds like a wonderful weekend!

Being a SAHM makes me feel like that every day. When life requires nothing more than yoga pants, it makes you sometimes really wish you had somewhere to go in heels.

  6. Your weekend sounds great. Have fun getting dressed up for your anniversary too!
I have been feeling like going out with the girls lately, or a date with D - probably because I haven't done the first in 4 months and the second in way longer.

  7. Your weekend sounds so nice. I'm such a homebody that I don't think I'd ever tire of relaxing weekends like the one you described. My mother-in-law was here this weekend and I enjoy her company but always feel the pressure to entertain and cook. So today I'm tired yet in a decent mood. :)

  8. Oh, I'm like that all the time. I don't want anyone to call me until no one does, then I'm mad no one called me. Bah.

  9. My weekend was a great respite from all things wedding. We went to a lakehouse that had no cell phone reception, no TV and no internet. Relaxation with my family was fantastic!

  10. i DID have a "get-all dressed up" weekend @ my friend's wedding, BUT we were running late so i only had like 20 mins to get dressed, do my hair, and do my makeup. i much prefer getting a nice hour of prep time if i'm really going to go all out..!

  11. I wish I had a weekend like that! Mine consisted of driving 5 hours on Saturday and busyness all day Sunday. Phew.

  13. I didn't even leave the house...it was actually pretty nice and for the first time in a while I feel rested. Maybe I should do it more often.

  15. It's all about balance. I'm the same way-- after too much crazyness, I want to relax, but when I'm restored, I want the busyness back again.
