Friday Five: Wedding Edition

1. Our RSVP deadline has passed, and after a few emails and IMs, we're down to only eight people who haven't responded. It looks like there are going to be about 80 guests at the wedding, which is only five over our initial target. I'm feeling very pleased about this. It's a good size for a wedding, I think. And it means that our budget is pretty much on target.

2. We got our ceremony music squared away, finally, with an affordable string quartet. And I have to say thank you to the readers who emailed with suggestions, advice, and even, in one case, an offer of free musical services. You guys are seriously the best.

3. I get my engagement ring back today. I'm excited for it to fit again. And not to feel naked and weird without it. Plus, they'll have cleaned it, so it will be all shiny and new like it was when Torsten proposed. I remember looking at it that day and not even being able to really see the diamond because it was so dazzling, reflecting all the sunlight. It hasn't looked like that in over a year, I suppose. But now it will again. Too bad it's rainy so I can't go outside and recreate the effect.

4. I have planned several lovely wedding errands for this weekend, including a trip to a stationery store to buy purple paper for programs, favor tags, and table name cards. Perhaps I've gone crazy, but I'm actually kind of looking forward to putting this stuff together. I feel very invested in all the little details, and making them pretty and nice. And I'm really not feeling much pressure about the wedding, because so much of it is already taken care of, and the details, while lovely, aren't crucial.

5. We are so close. If October flies by anything like as fast as September has, it'll be our wedding pretty much tomorrow. I feel pretty good about that.

  2. Crossing the items off of my mundane To-do list gives me a great feeling of accomplishment. I'm sure that feeling is magnified by about 100 when you are doing it for a wedding! :)

  3. Wow only a few people who havent RSVP'd that is great! So many details are falling into place! What did you decide for table names?

  4. There is something really exciting about nice, new, pricey stationary that you have big plans for. Have fun with it!

  5. I think that yes, perhaps you are a little insane with loving the details, but it's because you're so excited, which is just lovely and wonderful and precious.

That type of stuff does not interest me (mainly because I suck at anything crafty/visual) and if and when I ever get married, I'm not sure who the hell will handle any of that since I won't have money to hire someone. And my mom isn't into it either, so there's no hope there.

Perhaps you can be my wedding coordinator :)

  6. Ssssh. Ssssh. SSSSSHHHHH. Your wedding CAN'T be tomorrow. Because that means mine was yesterday. And we have far too much to do between now and then!!! :-)

Given we just got an astronomical quote for our wedding programs, I'm going to have to look into making our own, too. Sigh. Hope you're supper productive this weekend!!!

  9. I was wondering the other day if you're tired of looking at purple yet, I'm guessing that's a NO! :)

Congrats on your number of guests, I know staying on budget would be a (fairly) big deal to me!

  10. You're not crazy. That's exactly how I was about doing the invites. I was actually really excited to put them together, but no one believed me.

    I can't believe it's almost time! It's coming up fast. . . :)

  11. How nice that everything's working out according to plan. You sound very in control, which is great.

Have a lovely weekend. I love stationery stores!

  12. I will never get why people don't RSVP to things- especially a wedding! It's so rude.

    Totally getting excited for you!

  13. 80 is a great number for a wedding. Have a great and productive weekend!

  14. Just assume those 8 people will come and will bring guests. That way you won't be short if they DO show up ... and you can take the extra food home to eat after the wedding.

(put all those losers at a table in the back together, and call it the "loser table", hee!)

  15. Of all the wedding things I helped my sister with, helping put this pretty polka-dot ribbon across the top of the table reserved cards was my favorite. I just loved it!

Have fun at the stationary store. Those are my FAVORITE stores!

  16. We just had our rings cleaned. It felt so weird not to have it on! I put something else on instead, but it still didn't feel the same. I love that it is gorgeous and sparkly again. It makes me feel like a princess ;)

It sounds like you have things well underway. Hurrah!

  20. ooh, a pretty shiny ring, yay! and more purple paper stuff, I can just imagine what the interior of your house will look like when everything gets underway to be assembled.

  21. Very nice! Our wedding is tomorrow and we don't have half the RSVP's - that is an accomplishment and a half! Did you threaten violence on the invitations? = )

  22. Yay for narrowing down RSVPs!!

I remember that being a really hard part.

80 people is such a cozy wedding! We had like 200 (100 of which were my family. It's big like that)

And I'm super jealous of your ring. Since mine was lost/stolen this summer. It makes me so sad to think about it. Boo. :(

  23. Wow that is great that just about everyone RSVP'ed! I'm used to more people not responding so that is great!
