- I got discharged from the hospital at about 10:30 yesterday morning, came home, took two Percocet, and slept for two hours. It was blissful. Except the part where my neck hurt. But still. Two hours of sleep in your own bed is just about as refreshing as six hours of sleep in a hospital bed.
- Luckily my dad warned me that when you have surgery, you bloat and gain water weight from all the IV fluids. Otherwise I might have died from the shock when I got home and discovered that I had GAINED four pounds after a day of no breakfast, no lunch, and a clear liquid dinner. So THAT'S why they tell to take off your rings and wear loose, comfortable clothing when you come in for surgery. I'm still waiting for the weight to come off, incidentally. (And speaking of weighing myself, that's what my guest post at La's is about. In case you were looking for a sneak preview.)
- Unfortunately, I wasn't able to keep the purple paper gown. I only had that on before and during the surgery. They changed me into a cloth gown while I was in the recovery room. Sorry!
- When they did the surgery, they had to move my vocal cords out of the way (and as a side note, isn't that weird? It is such a bizarre concept to me that they just went ahead and draped my vocal cords over something else in my neck while they worked), and as a result of that, my voice is hoarse. I don't appreciate that very much, but it does make popsicles very appealing, which is good timing, since I always associate popsicles with July 4th for some reason.
- I can't go to the gym for TWO WEEKS. And I was in such a great gym groove for the entire month of June. I'm a little bitter about this interruption. Your job as my loyal readers is to force me to get my ass back in gear once the two weeks are up. Okay? Okay.
- You guys were all so eager to see my nasty leg scrape that I just went ahead and assumed that you would want to see my surgery site as well. But for the faint of heart, don't worry--it's still covered with paper tape, so it's not that gross. The below picture could DEFINITELY be worse.
Anyway, today Torsten is driving us down to North Carolina to spend the long weekend with my parents (I won't be helping out with the driving, as for some reason the doctors seem to believe that I shouldn't be driving under the influence of Percocet), so I won't be around tomorrow, and I assume I'm not the only one. Enjoy the time off, and have a great Fourth of July!
glad everything went well with the surgery! have a fantastic 4th of july jess :)
ReplyDeleteJess, great news to hear you were discharged. And honestly, that scar will be nothing before you know it. You might always know it's there, but I bet the rest of us will focus on that gorgeous face, head of hair and dress of yours when it's time for your wedding day! Have a great weekend in NC!
ReplyDeleteHooray for being home AND on vacation! Your scar doesn't look too bad, it will clear up in no time.
ReplyDeleteIt's the same with childbirth: people say, "Oh no, I weigh the same as before the baby was born!"---but the water weight still has to go away. It can take a surprisingly long time. I'm always like, "Why oh why is my body holding on to this? Is it a SOUVENIR or something??"
ReplyDeleteI definitely wanted to see your owie!
That scar isn't bad. Plus, it looks like it runs with the natural curve of your body, so it won't stand out much. It could have been vertical! :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great 4th!
Ouch. Happy 4th of July! Enjoy your long weekend.
ReplyDeleteThat's quite the picture! For some reason, I thought the incision would be vertical instead of horizontal, but even if there isn't much scar, maybe you could 'hide' it with the right necklace. At any rate, glad you're back!
ReplyDeleteNo time off around here. Mr. J. hasn't had a 'holiday' off since Christmas. harumph!
Ouch! I hope you rest up and keep recovering nicely over the long weekend.
ReplyDeleteHugs.
That is really weird how they just "tossed" your vocal cords out of the way to do the surgery then put them back. Bizarre! The incision doesn't look bad at all. Have a happy 4th and speedy recovery! :)
ReplyDeleteHave a safe trip and enjoy the recovery!
ReplyDeleteHappy July 4th and happy healing! Enjoy those popsicles!
ReplyDeleteYay for successful surgery. It looks like the scar will run on a very natural line, and won't be noticible.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fun weekend for you. Enjoy the holiday.
OOOOH. The vocal cord thing freaks me out too!
ReplyDeleteMy mom recently had a hysterectomy and they had to fill her abdomen with gas. She said she was passing gas for weeks after that and that you could see it moving in random places, like under her skin. GAH.
Wishing you a very speedy recovery! And I'll kick your ass to the gym if you promise to kick mine. I didn't think I was slacking that much until a friend informed me I have 'ghetto booty'. Can I just voice my extreme protest at the term 'BOOTY'? UGH.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are home and enjoying your percoset naps. Enjoy your 4th and your vacation!
ReplyDeleteNo gym visits for two weeks? That sounds like a free pass to use that time to play video games on your new wii to me! I'm partial to many of the wii sports game myself.
It doesn't look bad at all. If anything now you can have more excuses to buy more necklaces! :)
ReplyDeleteGlad you are home safely!
It doesn't look bad at all, my dear. Happy 4th :)
ReplyDeleteSo glad it all went well, and the scar won't be bad at all!
ReplyDeleteHave fun over the long weekend :)
Glad that you're out of the hospital!
ReplyDeleteHave a great 4th!
Have a great 4th! The scar doesn't look so bad. :)
ReplyDeleteThat is kind of ookey thinking about your vocal chords just draped over to the side during surgery. Have a great weekend and fun with your family!
ReplyDeleteHave a really great 4th of July weekend!
ReplyDeletei'm so glad that you are feeling OK after the surgery and that there were no complications!
ReplyDeleteOuch! Glad you're feeling okay, though. Have fun at your parents! And eat lots of popsickles!
ReplyDeleteGlad everything went well and you're back home. That scar will fade with time and be just a faint mark. could have been a lot worse
ReplyDeleteso glad to hear everything went ok : )
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to hear that everything went well!
ReplyDeleteheh, i totally wanted to see the incision, well done on posting it :-)
ReplyDeleteand yay for going home and getting the kind of fussing and recovery only parents can provide!
glad the surgery went well! And you know I always love a good post-surgery/injury photo so gracias for that one :-)
ReplyDeleteHope you are back to 100% and you've lost the 4 lbs. I'm sure you have! Anyways, hope your vacation and 4th of July was great!
ReplyDeleteOh, the perc. I love the perc. Constipates the hell out of you though, be careful. Stool softners help if you're having, uh, residual issues.
ReplyDeleteThe incision looks GREAT! Wow! I bet it will heal very nicely in time for the Big Day.
