Tuesday Retrospective

I've decided to start my own new weekly blog tradition. I know there are a bunch out there, and they're all alliterative, like Wordless Wednesday, Thursday Thirteen, and Friday Five. Mine is not alliterative, because I'm not that clever. Actually, I could come up with plenty of alliterative names for this--how about Tuesday Thinking, Tuesday Toss-up, Tuesday Treatise--but none of those means exactly what I want it to mean. And also, I'm not so into the whole alliteration thing, especially as it relates to cutesy blog post titles, and also I'm not trying to be catchy here so that other people start doing this. So I'm going to stick with the first title that came to mind, and that's Tuesday Retrospective.

Now, I realize that the word "retrospective" is usually only a noun if it refers to an exhibition of a whole selection of an artist's life work, and certainly that is not what the Tuesday Retrospective is designed to be. But I like the word, and the feeling of looking back over your life, and perhaps if I keep this up then it will turn into an "exhibition" of my life, not in terms of my art but in terms of my experiences. So I'm going to take some poetic license here and declare the title official.

Anyway, the idea here is that every Tuesday I'll write a post about something that happened to me in the past--no firm definition here of how far away something has to be to be considered "past," but generally just a feeling of something that happened to me once that is no longer happening to me now, or that affected me in some way that now feels like aftereffects rather than current effects. If that makes any sense. They will probably be along the lines of last Wednesday's post on scurvy, which I would totally retroactively label the first Tuesday Retrospective if only I had posted it one day earlier. I will attempt to include photos whenever possible, although since the idea here is that this stuff took place in the past, and I didn't get a scanner until September 2002 and a digital camera until December 2004, that may not always be possible.

Like I said, this is not designed to be a meme, but if any of you wants to take on the same (or a similar) tradition, I'd be totally into that. I love reading about past events in all of your lives. And Tuesday is a good day for that sort of thing, at least in my mind.

Anyway. I guess this means that tomorrow's post will be the first Tuesday Retrospective. Now I have to think of something to write about. Damn.

  1. Wow. Quite an explanation. You could have just done it, and we would have figured it out eventually...We're all pretty quick like that. ;)

Good luck with it. I've stopped trying to follow any sort of posting theme, because I'm to the point where I post what I can, when I can.

  2. Oooh I like that idea! It's always good to have a bit of structure. I look forward to reading tomorrow.

  4. I like that idea, too. I don't know if I'll do it(I'd be tempted to skip anything remotely serious and instead 'restrospect' about the time I threw up in a band concert or the summer I kept not wearing shoes, even though I stepped on honeybees repeatedly), but...maybe. I'm excited to see yours, though!

  6. 1) I like non-alliteration, too.

    2) I like hearing the explanation.

    3) I like that last Wednesday's post would have been the first one, except that it was on a Wednesday.

  8. Tuesday is always a good day for retrospective. I have no idea why, but it seems to work well. Can't wait for the first one!
