Fabulosity

So this one time, there was this awesome blogger named Alice, and we lived pretty much in the same town, but we were stupid and it didn't occur to us that hello, we could meet up in person and have fun and drink beer and it would be awesome.

But then there was this other time, after we'd been reading each other's blogs for I don't know, a year? When Alice had the groundbreaking idea that hey! Let's have dinner!

So we did. Last night. Alice brought along her wife and I brought along my fiance. And it was great.

Everyone knows already that Alice is awesome (and if you didn't, read this post by her wife that neatly enumerates everything about her that is so awesome). But as it turns out? She is even more awesome in person. And also? Gorgeous. Just like her wife. Who is equally awesome.

And if you were wondering why they're married? It's because they are truly best friends. The friendship and the closeness they have are the kind of thing that most people can only dream of having. And they have so much fun together. And their fun is completely infectious. And um, to that guy who did the triple take when he heard us having a completely inappropriate conversation that may or may not have involved the concept of women doing something that only men are physically capable of doing? We're sorry. Sort of.

The only downside is that I came straight from work and didn't think to bring my camera. Luckily, Alice is a step ahead of me, so check over at her place for pictures of what was a seriously fabulous dinner. (Update: But not yet on the photos. Maybe tomorrow?)

God I love blogging. How else would I know so many incredible people? And some of them even live in my town! Which means there will have to be another dinner with the Mrs. and Mrs. shortly.

What about you guys? What fabulous experiences have you had thanks to your blog?

  3. Sounds great! I have met other bloggers in person. It's so nice to sit down with people you already share a bond with and not have it be like you're meeting people for the first time.

  6. Awesome! I am jealous; I want to meet Alice and The Wife.

In a few weeks, Jason & I are road-tripping to Colorado to watch the Rockies play the Twins, and we might get to meet up with Artemisia if the timing works out. I hope so!

  8. I have met some very cool people in several different states. I loved that when I had to go to Philly on business, I had people to hang out with at night because I knew bloggers there.

  9. What fun! I love meeting bloggers. Another Seattle blogger and I are trying to get some Seattle bloggers to meet on Saturday. I've had only good experiences meeting bloggers. Well, except that one time...

    ;)

  10. Sounds like a great time was had by all! I think the best thing that's happened to me because of my blog is the people I've met, by far.

I recently met a non-blogger who considers herself a professional blog reader and we really hit it off in person too. I find we talk about all sorts of things that I didn't really have someone to talk to about before, and just have a great time. As you get older it becomes harder to meet new people so I love that I still can through blogging. It's great!

(I'm not sure why this sounds like a glowing testimonial for blogging but who cares!)

  11. I've met a few bloggers- 2 from in my own city, and one from WAY up north that there is no possible way I would have met otherwise.
I love love love what blogging does to bring people together!

  12. awww that sounds like so much fun!!! I love meeting new bloggers :) I hate people who think it's shady because i dunno, we live in such a time where it's easy to meet people we wouldn't otherwise meet. I've met a few amazing people from blogging and look forward to meeting many more. :)

  13. OMG - I'm so jealous you got to meet Alice. She was one of the first blogs I started reading regularly! I'm sure she's just as amazing and funny in person as she is on her blog!

Your question about bloggers? Well, you've just given me fodder for a blog post of my own. Far too long of a list to leave here in your comments!

BTW - what the f*ck is up with blogger today? It's giving me fits!!!

  14. I've met only one other blogger in person, but it was fab. I'm going to BlogHer, which will also be fab. And I've gotten a TON of great advice and feedback that has geniunely influenced decisions I've made in real life. Blogging is awesome.

  17. I love meeting bloggers in real life, but so far I have only met Julie.

Stephanie and I live, like, 2 seconds away from each other, which I think actually PREVENTS us from meeting up!

I want more, though! More blogger meet ups!

  18. Sounds like you had a great time. It's fun meeting bloggers because you already sort of know them.. in a weird way. I met Mona from Kirida and she is awesome.

  20. Haven't met any bloggers, but I do know Jess cause we use to work together. Does that count?

  21. I don't want to call it a fabulous experience but I will say a sort of bittersweet benefit: I can communicate with my inlaws without having to actually talk to them. They read the blog (oh how i wish they didn't) but at least that means I don't really have to talk on the phone.
Oh! and I met up with a girl who spent some time growing up three houses down from me. Who knew?!

  22. So glad you guys had fun meeting! I am meeting a fellow blogger in a couple of weeks and I am really excited. And a little nervous.

I started blogging to keep in touch with old friends, never expecting "meet" any new ones. Wow - the majority of folks who visit are folks from the internet. I've never been and internet kind of person, I've never done the chat room thing, nothing. So, I am always surprised at how very much these new friendships mean to me. So - no single blogging-inspired events to date, but a handful of really wonderful people have become a part of my life.

  23. A draw back to a anom. blog is there really isn't much opportunity to meet with fellow bloggers. Which one day I would really like to. The perk I've had to blogging, is I can freely talk shit about my boss.

  24. I'm jealous! I think the best part about blogging is the solidarity---I feel so supported by these other people from across the country. Though I haven't met anyone in person, I feel a bond with so many people!

  29. Cool! I missed the chance to meet BOSSY when she came through Seattle on her big, hairy, road trip. One of these days, I'll get to meet some of my blogging friends.

  30. Lawyerish (www.lawyerish.com) is one of my very best friends I've ever had in my whole life. Truly. She's like my sister, my soul mate friend, my ... well, she's one of the best things I've ever received in my whole life. Our friendship is weirdly epic, as we like to joke.

I never ever would have had her if not for this weirdo thing. Ever. And I can't imagine my life without her. And I NEVER would have imagined I'd get that through blogging. Ever.

  31. this is just so cool! i totally also commented on alices blog about how jealous i was because i want a blogger meet up!!

  33. Sadly NONE, yet, but someday I plan to call everyone on my blogroll (when I'm rich thanks to publishing le novel) and invite EVERYONE to a big dinner bash somewhere hot and sandy.

You, of course, will be on the list.

I wish *I* lived near my blog friends.

  34. Just caught up on all your posts. Your leg - OW. I've done that - it's not fun. Can you get some gauze and cover it up so it doesn't sting every time you put pants on? (Knowing you, you probably already have.)

Also. Yay for meeting bloggers. I'm so glad I got to meet McGee through the blog, as well as so many others via e-mail and IM. I wouldn't have done half the things I did out here without her.

  35. agh I wish that I could meet some of the people who read and comment on my blog. but everyone lives on a different continent. Hmmm well deutlich gave me music for free ... and some told me they would give me a tour of their country.

  36. I've met a couple of blog friends in real life and it simply rocks. You know so much about each other, and even some of the same people. Add fruit drinks or beer and it's an awesome girls' night all around.
