Holiday road

Last night Torsten and I picked up some gifts from my sister to be transported to my parents' house, did laundry, packed a small suitcase full of our clothes and a much larger one full of our gifts, and then collapsed in bed, totally worn out. This morning we picked up our rental car and loaded it full of everything, which took quite some time and even more space. Good thing we went for the mid-size SUV, since for once it was the same price as the subcompact economy car we usually go for.

We're both at work now, but we've taken the liberty of wearing jeans to the office on a Tuesday, a clear sign that we plan to hit the road before the official end of the workday. I am so excited for the five-day weekend, to be followed the next week by a four-day weekend. Seriously, I'm pretty sure that's how all weekends should be.

Plus, of course, it'll be nice to relax, spend time with family, sleep late, and possibly even enjoy a couple of fires in the fireplace, assuming it's anywhere near as cold in North Carolina as it was here yesterday. And I--I mean, Santa J. Claus--prepared a stocking for Torsten that has a very specific theme, which I can't reveal here as he will read it, but I will try to remember to share after the holiday. It's going to be awesome. Plus the real presents, of course. And the eggnog.

Anyway, it hasn't snowed around here all season, nor does it ever really snow around here, so I can't leave you with a festive holiday snowscape photo. Instead, I'll leave you with the next best thing: a macro shot by Torsten of one of the powdered sugar-covered Christmas cookies that we baked this weekend. It looks kind of snowy, right?

Have a great holiday, everybody!

  3. Getting ready for vacation really is exhausting, isn't it? So glad to hear you're getting to take some time off. I mean, that's what we all need a mere month after our honeymoon, right?!? =) Have a safe trip down to North Carolina. And bring back some y'alls for me, y'hear?!? Merry Christmas, my dear!

  10. Have a safe trip! Your cookies look amazing and I totally agree that all weekends should be a minimum of 4-5 days. That seems only fair.

  19. I hope that cookie recipe appears on your food blog sometime.....maybe for Valentine's Day. After the glut of Christmas baking going on around here, I think we're done for a few months. Maybe longer.

Have a wonderful first MARRIED Christmas, Jess!

  20. Santa has a middle name?

That is a fabulous looking cookie! My mom is about to start the baking so soon our house will be filled with sugary goodness to offset the sleet falling outside :)

  23. Don't eat the snow! :) I'm glad your holiday is going so well. I have to say I'm glad I'm not traveling - the news keeps interviewing people in bus stations camped out on cardboard beds.
